The Eagles entered the final game of the day against Scotland the same way they ended it, with a chance to advance to the Cup Quarters. A 12-12 tie kept their hopes alive.
The USA took the lead early off of a Folau Niua try at the end of the first minute. Shalom Suniula hit the conversion.
Scotland caught up at the end of the first half after Nick Edwards was shown a yellow card. The Scots also hit their conversion attempt, leaving the score tied 7-7 at halftime.
The second half was extremely similar, as Zack Test scored just a minute in to give the USA the lead, and Scotland punched through at the end of regulation to tie it up. This half, both teams missed their kicks, leaving the score tied 12-12 at full time.
For Scotland, the result was good enough to push them into the Cup Quarters. The Eagles were left awaiting the result of the next game between Wales and Kenya to hear if they’d be in the top or bottom eight on Day Two. A 33-15 Welsh defeat of Kenya saw the USA finish second in their pool and advance to their third Cup Quarterfinal of the season.
