Serevi, USAR to Host 7s Coaching Clinic
Tournaments - USA Sevens Tournament

BOULDER, Colo. -- Today, USA Rugby and Serevi™ announced a new partnership to kick off with a jointly organized coaching clinic February 9-10, 2012 in Las Vegas. The Serevi Sevens Rugby Seminar will feature sevens legend Waisale Serevi and his team who will engage participants in a sevens-specific clinic for high school, college, and senior club coaches from around the country.

The clinic, which is exclusive to USA Rugby members, will be held at Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas in conjunction with the USA Sevens, the fifth leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.  The cost of the course is $125.

The one and a half-day seminar will combine classroom theory with on-field practice and will conclude with a half-day visit to Sam Boyd Stadium to observe coaching up close in an international tournament setting.

“We have no mission more important than growing the game of rugby in the U.S.,” said USA Rugby CEO and President of Rugby Operations, Nigel Melville. “Developing coaches is crucial to that process. For that reason, we are very selective about our partners. The team at Serevi™ is exceptional. The chance to learn sevens rugby straight from a legend like Waisale Serevi is a can’t miss opportunity.”

USA Eagles star and former captain Matt Hawkins and Evan Haigh, the coach of the national championship-winning Seattle-based club Old Puget Sound Beach, will contribute as part of the Serevi™ team as well.

Eric Sanderson, Serevi™ Chief Operating Officer added, “We’re absolutely thrilled to work with USA Rugby on such critical programming. This kind of grassroots programming, over time, will raise the level of play in the U.S. To get to develop our sport with the dedicated team from USA Rugby is indeed an honor.”
