The USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship is hosting its biggest event to date, and the women's division is happily returning to the fold after a year hiatus. Logistics prevented last year's tournament from being realized, but once West Chester University made their varsity pitches available, the field quickly filled.
The caliber is quite high for the second women's tournament, with 2011 finalists - Army and Penn State - and perennial DI powerhouses returning to the fray. Three DI teams competed at the College 7s Championship last December: second-place Navy, fourth-place Texas and Plate finalist Ohio State.
The local crowd will have ample reason to cheer as host West Chester and Temple augment the Philadelphia fanbase. And late addition Georgia Tech spices up the lineup, as the lone representative from the South.
Pool play will be contested on Friday, May 31 (12 p.m. - 5 p.m.) at West Chester University, which is located fewer than 30 miles from Philadelphia's city center. The quarterfinals and semifinals will also occur at the Golden Rams' home fields on Saturday, June 1 (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.). The final will be played prior to the men's college final inside PPL Park on Sunday, June 2 (~5 p.m.).
