Men's DII College Top 25, April 4, 2012
Rankings - Men DII College

(These rankings originally ran April 4 on our premier side.)

Big movement in DII this week, as multiple territorial or local area unions have been in the midst of playoffs.

In the West, Lindenwood continued to dominate, crushing Northern Colorado and Texas Tech en route to the West championship. The Lions have earned their way into the Sweet 16 where they’ll play UW-Milwaukee, which won their way to Nationals by beating Northern Illinois in a challenge match Saturday.

The only team to beat UW-Milwaukee this season is defending national champ UW-Whitewater. If the seeding proves accurate at Nationals, we’ll see No.1 play No. 2 in the quarterfinals in Cottage Grove, Wisc.

Because they lost to both Lindenwood in the semifinals and Central Missouri in the third-place game in the West playoffs, Northern Colorado tumbles all the way to No. 16. Central Missouri holds strong at 15, losing to Texas Tech by two in the other West semifinal.

The Red Raiders climb to No. 13. Their best player was hurt in the physical semifinal against UCM and did not play against Lindenwood.

We don’t typically put much weight on Sunday consolation matches, but in this case, it’s the only material we have to compare Texas Tech, Central Missouri and UNC.

In the Mid-Atlantic, all of the quarterfinal winners, except unranked Georgetown, stay put in the Top 25. Two MARFU teams fall: VMI, which lost heavily to Towson, and East Stroudsburg, which lost to Georgetown. Radford finished behind VMI in Virginia play and stays one spot behind them here.

In the Pacific Northwest, Idaho State ended Western Oregon’s perfect season to take the Wolves’ spot in the Pacific Coast playoffs. The Bengals also leap over them in our list.
