UMW Wins in Preseason Clash
Colleges - Men's DII College

The University of Mary Washington “Mother’s” RFC wrapped up their pre-season with a 32-29 win over DII power Georgetown in an entertaining free-flowing game.

UMW was coming off a convincing win against DI Columbia on the road in NYC where they won 20-5.  It was obvious to the fans that both Georgetown and UMW were well-coached teams with a lot of experience and the score was not indicative of poor defense.

UMW’s pack controlled much of the loose yet Georgetown stuck to a determined pattern of play and patiently and skillfully put points on the board throughout the match. The lead changed five times throughout the match and the “Mother’s” from UMW needed goal line defense to come out the victors.

UMW will be hosting 2-time national champion Radford this coming Saturday in what has become probably the best-attended college rugby match in the east – last time hosting almost 2000 fans to a thrilling match.

UMW Director of Rugby Tim Brown commented “We are always the underdog when we play Radford – their strength, experience, and skill don’t allow you to take one play off or they pile on the points.”
