Rugby Wash. to Host Advanced Coach Course
School Age - Boys

Rugby Washington will be hosting an advanced coach training course November 9-11 at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.

The course is part of a series with other clinics held at Back Bay RFC in Los Angeles, and in Virginia.

The clinics feature Jono Phillips, current Taranaki Development Manager and former Wellington Hurricanes High Performance Coach, assisted by current High School All Americans Head Coach Salty Thompson.

Jono Phillips has coached Scotland Development, Scotland U21s, and the Scottish 7s team, as well as working with Wellington and Taranaki in New Zealand.

The course will include:

  • Skill Development
    • Clean out
    • Tackle Techniques
    • Jackal Techniques
    • Handling (catch and pass)
    • Fending
    • Evasion
    • Conditioning games
  • Contact area attack and defense - systems and decision making
  • Developing phase play attack
  • Developing and coaching patterns of play
  • Decision-making and recognizing opportunities

Cost is $150 per coach if you register by the end of October, or $175 after that. Some proceeds of the clinic go to support Rugby Washington age-grade select side programs.
