Chris Wyles returned to a starting position for Saracens this past weekend, lining up at wing and leading the team with 50 meters gained on the run.
Wyles helped Saracens to a 23-10 win over Sale in Aviva Premiership play. USA lock Hayden Smith came off the bench.
Also in the Premiership, Samu Manoa came off the bench to make four tackles in Northampton’s 24-13 win over Wasps.
In the English Championship, Robbie Shaw started at scrumhalf as Leeds defeated Nottingham 22-19. Mike MacDonald and Tim Usasz didn’t play.
Shawn Pittman did play, but ended the game in the sin-bin as London Welsh beat Doncaster 21-7. And also in the Championship, the Cornish Pirates beat Rotherham 30-13 with Andrew Suniula starting at inside center.
In France, it was a quiet weekend. A mumps epidemic within the Lyon club prompted the Bayonne v. Biarritz game to be called off (Biarritz has recently played Lyon, so the move was to try to isolate the problem). Agen and Montpellier also had games called off.
Stade Francais beat Clermont 37-16. Scott LaValla had a few minutes on as a sub.
In Pro D2 Perigueux and Inaki Basauri lost 15-9 to Aurillac.
In Japan, Suntory beat NIT 46-15. Todd Clever did not play.
On Tuesday, Oxford University takes on London Welsh. All American Derek Asbun and his old Cal teammate Jason Law are on the Oxford squad. Law is coming back from injury, so isn’t certain of selection. Asbun has been playing regularly for Oxford. The USA’s Shawn Pittman is on the bench for London Welsh.
