Hello? We're not Scotland and collegiate rugby is not a professional sport. So, WTF is your point? The reality is that there are 100s of college rugby clubs and only a few are any good. The reality in Scotland is that there is a small population and only two clubs can generate the revenue to compete with other European teams to pay quality players. Duh.

If you want a two horse race, look at the Scottish Premier League. 12 out of the last 13 years Rangers and Celtic finished 1st and 2nd (the exception being Hearts finishing 2nd in 05-06). In 1985 Aberdeen won a title, which was the last time a team other than those 2 won. In all, the two teams have won the league 95 (53 for Rangers, 42 for Celtic) of the 124 seasons.

It isn't as level a playing field as other sports, so there is no comparison....don't take that as a complaint against Cal or BYU or the system, it just 'is what it is'.

Cal indeed looked more impressive and unstoppable in their semi against Utah in the rain at Glendale than BYU did against ASU. On the other hand, some teams' style matches up better against BYU than it does Cal. In 2009 BYU beat ASU in Atlanta by 10 but managed to overcome Cal in the final. This year they beat ASU by 21 (I know, it somehow didn't look like that much, but it was a 21 point differential), and I wouldn't be astonished if they were able to squeeze by Cal again. BYU has tools and Cal has tools. They're both awesome rugby programs with superior coaching and a winning tradition. I predict that the outcome will be uncertain well into the final half of the match and that's all we can ask for the best game in the best competition in America. BTW, can anybody come up with a comparison somewhere in sport between two programs that have gone toe-to-toe with each other in the competition final of a many-team league for six consecutive times? I can't think of one.
