King K, You're completely off base with both Cal and Utah. Most of Cal's kids are from Calfornia, with a few from the East coast, a few from Canada, and a few from across the ponds. Utah is also a team of mostly kids from Utah. Just because a kid has Samoan or Tongan ethnicity doesn't man he's not American.

Curt Huckaby saw an opening with the school and took it brilliantly. ASU had empty seats at its school and Curt got them to offer in-state tuition fees for out of state students if they played rugby. One of the coaches from SA got that ball rolling. The school saw the huge potential that rugby was bringing in tuition fees and filling empty seats, so provided some good financial support. The SA players and great team they built have attracted an influx of talented American born players. ASU has no HS feeder programs and is building a great team with what it has available. Good for them. I have nothing to do with ASU except have coached against them and I hope they beat BYU today.

@ Dude, have you talked with the Ark St coaches, players, etc...? Or are you just going off sheet? I'm asking because I have. Some of these players came across b/c of recommendations by previous players. Some are across because the university has grown it's international student population from the likes of Asia, Africa and SE Asia. They are doing things at Ark St that are seen at much larger universities. And also, I stand behind my comment regarding the players that came across with their parents. I've met a few parents that came here, either for work or a better life, and their kid is now playing at ASU. Besides, what's the big deal? I'm with previous posters...position competition gives you a better program.

Being American born myself..Im kind of tired of the "where are the Americans" question... Its not a citizenship based competition.. It's one college versus another...and last i checked, it not a bad thing for folks from other countries going to your university with you...or maybe its schools that are any good for anything lol But even more so, most of these folks that ask the question, have done nothing to bring anyone new (American or otherwise) to the game... as a fan, player, supporter or whatever...If you want more Americans, get more Americans playing the game earlier.. and longer... thats the end that matters, the end that grows and increases access of Americans to the game in whatever the capacity they would want to be involved

Nice try on Ark St. The following players are from South Africa and are at ASU just because of rugby: Farr Evans Caswell Gericke Wessels Potgeiter Aitken Stander Swanepoel Paterson Chitanda They do have a growing number of US raised players, but let's not pretend these are a bunch of American kids leading their team.

You know, I'm growing tired of this "where are the Americans?" comments. Go to ANY college campus and outside of football, EVERY sport features players from another country. Baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, track, water polo, etc... If you're going to complain about rugby, complain about those sports as well. For the record, I'm an American, born and bred. I'm a rugby fan, an official within the sport, a former player and glad to see that our game is growing. Let's be HAPPY that our game is growing and move on. And like some others have mentioned here, the number of "imports" on these teams are not what you think. For example, Ark St features only a handful of foreign students here for school, but they do feature a few kids who's parents moved here a few years ago and due to the rugby program, they're at Ark St.

Congratulations Davenport, big win. @ King K you shouldn't assume. Utah has very, very few imported players. The foreign players playing for Utah have also been living in Salt Lake or the U.S. for years. Same with BYU and Cal. I don't know about ASU. But you shouldn't assume.
