I saw BYU last year at the final four and have watched them twice this year. Yes, I played for Cal, but, damn, many, and I mean many of BYU starters and bench look 2-3-4 years older than every team they have played. Anyone have insight into this?

I wouldn't underestimate Ark St. Then again, the altitude may factor into BYU's hands and make things difficult for ASU around the 55 or 60 min mark. No matter how good you are, heavy legs and lungs will put you back a step. And you cannot afford to be a step behind anyone at this level.

I thought Goff's & Clifton's predictions would have actual scores or spreads attached ... yeah, yeah, I know ... journalistic integrity. :) Well, actually, I'm not even willing to put numbers on these matches either ... still having nightmares about a 2009 quarterfinal match, ASU vs. BYU, with no updates available anywhere online until halftime on MobileScore: ASU 3, BYU 0 ... Scary! Definite potential for some very close games here ... Go BYU!!!

In other college sports you have your programs that are "historically" (not every single year) in the top eschelon: Football: the Oklahomas,USCs, Texas', etc; Basketball: Kentuckys, N Carolinas, Kansas', you get the idea. Why would rugby be any different. And just like those other sports as competition gets stronger you end up with a Butler in basketball and a Boise State in football. We shouldnt be too cynical about the first season or two or three if the same schools dominate. Its sorta how it goes. It should be embraced with the understanding that in time the quality of rugby at an even younger age will continue to grow and with more kids playing they cant all go to 4-6 schools. This is good. Stop the whining about Cal and BYU being the best...right now. It will change in time. Remember UCLA had a very dominant decade in basketball and now you rarely hear about them. Let the game evolve and not worry about the "its not fare" atitudes.

Oevr night change should not have been anyone's expectation, and although the top teams may be the same, the one thing we should see from the new league is a higher quality final and teams not restung players in the semis from the old 2 game playoff weekends of the past. A full week of recovery and game planning between the Semi and the final shoudl make for a much better match, taht i look forward to watching on TV.

do you honestly think the creation of a new league would change everything overnight in one season? Come on, I know we are brighter than that.... The first year was meant to spark more interest which then affects the players and schools and competition each successive year after that.... Of course the FIRST year is going to have the same teams at the top..... buncha negative nancys sit on this thing all day....

I think it's funny the top 4 teams from the old div 1 are still the top 4 teams in CPD. When you factor in St. Marys, Navy, Army and others, the top 8 have not changed. Why go through all of the hassles of creating a new league? Nonetheless, happy to watch games on actual TV than web-stream that cuts out every 20 seconds.
