First off, there's no question it's unethical. It's a direct conflict of interest. Now I'm not saying the "judges" are unethical, but the process is. This is an INVITATIONAL event so your comments have no metit. Please, free to begin your own Invitational Event rather that whine about the folks who took some initiative and did something about the absence of ANY event at all. If you think there is any way that those four teams don't end up in that tournament over other teams with equal records from other regions, you're naive. With so much cheating and bending of the rules occurring in US HS rugby, the one fair tournament that existed has now gone away for no specific reason. I have no problem with Alex Goff being on the panel, in fact he's the only saving grace of it. I'd rather have him and his staff decide it than a bunch of coaches who have direct interest in making sure their teams are in it.

Why has USA Rugby discontinued the comprehensive, equitable and highly successful system that had been used to determine USA Rugby’s National High School Champion since 1981? In that highly successful system: 1) Each of the 30+ Local Unions comprising USA Rugby held their own individual local union HS Championships. 2) Then the LAU champions in each of the seven Territorial Unions met to determine the seven Territorial Union HS Champions. 3) Then the Territorial Union Champions met at Nationals to determine the National High School Champion. I can never recall anything but praise for this comprehensive and highly equitable system. Why was it discontinued?	Ed Hagerty	Rugbymag@aol.com

That comment seems to imply unethical behavior and also limits the field quite a bit. Also, I believe Alex is not directly involved with a Boys HS Team. The others are tireless supporters of HS Rugby for years, whose progams speak for themselves and are willing to keep this competition alive. Alex has proved to be a great friend of HS Rugby. They all deserve more respect. So...are you willing to step up to the plate and put all the time in or just whinging?

Funny how the people deciding who gets in the tourney have a direct conflict of interest since they themselves would most likely be participants. The panel should consist of people familiar with high school rugby yet not directly tied to any participating team.
