@Lisa- All games are an opportunity to grow rugby. To suggest growing interest should ONLY happen at the grassroots level is short-sighted. If a team that doesn't have 35 players, or even 20, qualifies for nationals how can you disqualify their efforts based on team size? Qualification is based on effort and results. To discriminate against teams of smaller sizes is ridiculous. All teams who qualify deserve to go. As we saw with WSU, a 2 week or less notification is not going to help anything. No one would have been prepared to take the trip or have been prepared to go. Also, if Santa Clara had not been able to go then it would most likely have fallen to Utah State, who was the other regionals qualifier. But they failed to show and forfeited their match. Does that mean they deserved to go?

Well ssaid BKS, but as you can see by the thumbs down ratings these people don't care about the truth. They don't like any team from the west coast except WWU. I will gladly cheer for WWU next weekend ih hopes they win it all. That will be 2 straight National Titles for Pacific Coast teams. To all of you hoping to disband the DII championship that just might be what will cause it ti happen. Can't wait to see all the sour looks on the faces of those east coast blue bloods.

If you can read (based off of the intelligence so brilliantly not displayed by some of you I’m not certain) then you would have read a quote by the club’s president If you didn’t notice it before perhaps you should go read it It wasn’t a matter of the uni telling them we aren’t funding you two weeks before the tourny It was a surprise which happened shockingly close to the point in which they had thought themselves to be leaving Also please note the part where if we had gone our club would have been endangered No one seems to have seen that bit the stipulation of going was not worth the consequences of attending. Imagine a team who won nationals last year, and imagine how steep those consequences would have to be to prevent them from defending their title Pretty harsh I would guess One last point, my team notified USArugby when they were notified that they couldn’t go If you are displeased with the short notice imagine how the players must have felt when they found out only just before

As a member of the WSU team currently studying abroad and unable to play this season I’m sure you can understand my complete disgust at this article and at several of you people commenting on here. The first thing you should understand is that we are college students and as a general rule we are poor and cannot afford to pull a plane ticket out of thin air. Due to the fact that we are a young club we have no alumnae support, and as we have been attending nationals for the previous two years we have had no time to build up the funds to send us to post season play because we are repaying previous loans. My teammates worked hundreds (yes I meant hundreds) of hours in fundraising time this year to pay off our debts from last season, and had only a short amount of time to then begin to fund for this year. We are predominantly reliant on our university for support, which was not given.

First of all @Lisa you are a joke… stop talking if you can’t correctly name the teams you are insulting… it’s Washington State University… not WCU. And second, all of you idiots suggesting that DII women’s rugby shouldn’t be allowed a national championship are ridiculous and I’m sure the only reason you are of this inclination is because your own team falls far below the standard of adequate rugby skill and are bitter because you will never accomplish anything worthwhile in regards to the sport.

You want the sport to grow. WSU is only in its 5th or 6th year. They don't have the tradition or large public backing that the older east coast teams share. Both WSU and UCSC have small numbers but they are working hard to develop a base of players and financial support. Your expectations of Marfu and Northeast teams don't always fit with these other areas where the sport is in its infantsy. These are good teams filled with hard working dedicated players that take the game and tournaments seriously. Neither team forfieted these games on a whim. Get over your east coast superiortity complex and collect all the facts before you condemn them.

What is it with you people. The goal of every team that made the National's field was to WIN 2 GAMES not travel to either coast and play in 2 games. I traveled to Orlando and watched the games. UNCC benefitted by the forfiet. They would not have beaten the Lady Cougars of WSU, so would not have had the chance to play Stonehill and possibly make it to the Final Four.If you people think it is so important for the teams to play 2 games to justify the travel expenses why don't they play consolation games at the Finals? continued

@Lisa - Regionalization would not have "helped" SCU as they DID travel at great expense to the players, families, and coaches. In fact, 2 weeks prior, SCU traveled 900+ miles to play in the regionals and due to a late ineligibility ruling against one of the other teams, ended up only playing 1 game! I can never subscribe to the theory that a team should be turned away from a tournament because they "might" get injured. Let's consider a scenario under your thinking - SCU lose players in the week leading up to the 16s, they phone and withdraw. Who takes their place, the team that weren't eligible for the game that SCU didn't get to play in Washington? Another team from another region, who'd have to organize and fund a last minute trip to San Diego? I think in reality, had SCU pleased you and called off, then Shippensburg would be added to the list of "harmed" teams because they would have had no opponent on Saturday.
