Folks fightin' amongst themselves, when the culprit is USA Rugby. They send out an unfunded mandate, provide zero administrative support, and fiddle as the TU system breaks down and everyone scrambles. The Univ. of Louisville RFC is in our 4th year--with a 6-year plan to go DI--and when we get there we'll have to coble together some sort of league out of what's left. (We've been told the MAC doesn't want us.) Considering that we're surrounded by Big 10, MAC and SEC schools, finding 7 teams is going to be a struggle. Obviously, the Big East--stretching from California to Conneticut isn't going to work. It's time for USA Rugby to step-up, show real leadership and provide some guidelines--leagues, academic standards, varsity vs. club-- that are clear and fair for all.

When the NCAA wants to punish a member, what do they do ? They take away some of varsity's built-in advantages, so that they won't win. Does anyone think PSU football will win a game ? Then why would anyone think think that these advantages don't apply to rugby ?

They (BG) sure didn't respond to attempts from LU to schedule them last year. quote name="Garryowen"]Dodging tough games? In the past two years Bowling Green has played the Cincinnati Wolfhounds, the Detroit Tradesmen, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Air Force and was the first club to offer up a match to Wheeling. They also pursued matches with Syracuse and Kutztown. Miami has played a similar mix of D I men's clubs and upper level colleges as well as a very aggressive sevens schedule.. Where is there any dodging?

I never suggested that WJU would play great. I merely wanted to understand the reasoning for exclusion. Such has been explained. Sure, WJU won't be great their first year, but anyone who understands the Jesuit educational system (discipline) and how varsity programs in the US fare knows that this will eventually be a team to beat at some level. This combination should create some good rugby, but you know that already.

simple, I neglected to explain that I was using the term ROI in the fiscal sense (for the most part). However, your spin on it makes sense, just not any sense I would ever adhere to. The ROI from a thrashing is never realized immediately, but is realized by those determined and dedicated to over-coming such adversity by performing better in the next match.

I'm curious about this powerhouse of a rugby program called Wheeling Jesuit. Can you tell me about their players? No. Their experience? No. I played with two of their potential A side starters. Trust me, they are not A side. Six 5k scholarships with no foreigners does not equal Cal, Lindenwood or Davenport. I hope grant chronicles the WJU scores this fall. Wheeling won't score 30 points this fall unless they play D3/2 sides

Grant, I hope you realize that your explanation about A&M joining the ARC because of ROI is the exact same justification used by club sports teams not wanting to add a varsity team to their conference. What is the ROI on losing by 100 points to a team that has every advantage that you don't have? There is very little. so there's you're answer about why a conference wouldn't let Wheeling Jesuit in. It is all about ROI, and you've explained it nicely yourself.
