Both red cards were surely deserved, and I would hope would be called in any match. The first one in particular looked intentional and sets a bad example for younger players in the US. This can't be what USA Rugby aspires to.

I completely agree. What a travesty this was and the referee should most certainly be held accountable for this laughable game. Pulling out two nonsene red cards in a friendly match is unheard of...what a disgrace

Alex Goff, you should be ashamed of yourself. As a neutral (NZer), both red cards were fair. The first one, would be one of the most blantantly late (and I believe that influenced the ref's decision to go to red rather than just yellow) tackles I have ever seen in international rugby. Your description of the second is pure BS! If you can't see a red card from that cheap shot of Emerick's, it's time you found another job!

Sorry but the 2 reds cards are fair.Very late and mean tacle on the flyhalf, stupid shoulder tacle from Emerick deserve red. Dangerous play end up with red card. The scrum was all Italie. Don't we have a tiehead is the US that can scrum? The same guy was at the last world cup and play badly every game.

A Ref will strive to be objective (good ones) but obviously all calls end up being subjective; we're human. So the most important factor is consistency during a match and also at the level of play (youth, club, international) by all Refs as much as possible. I want the "best" Ref making the "right calls" 100% of the time but I can live with just about any Ref in any sport as long as there is "Consistency" of calls. Consistency is what allows the players to adjust and effect the outcome on their own terms. Without it is when we all start complaining that the Ref is taking the match out of the players hands.

I love how all the refs are on here complaining about this article. @rugbydoug, you are probably an American ref who does what this french ref did. Ruin a game because of your personal bias. This crap happens all the time in American rugby, crappy refs who want to hurt a club or dont like a particular player will change the outcome with BS calls. And then they will say crap like rugbydoug did, about the scrum. Like he knows what he is talking about, probably played DII some where and thinks he was the man. This is a shame.
