I disagree. One of the exciting aspects of following sports is to see how young players develop. Regarding Mike Petri, whatever his strengths and weaknesses might be, he is only 27 years old, with plenty of time to improve. People used to say blanket statements like the words quoted above, regarding speed and athleticism. But modern training methods have proven that speed can be learned, and measurable tests of athleticism can be improved. Petri seems dedicated to his craft. If he takes care of his own body, he could play rugby at a high level for the next ten years, so let him have his opportunity.

@all. Sadly Mate22 is correct. Petri was caught completely lacking the speed and decision making skills it takes to put forwards on the front foot. The chances he did have were not taken, as he box kicked out-on-the full more than once and knocked on several times when he wasn't under any real pressure. He seems rather mechanical in his play and the lack of creativity isn't going to fly on the international level.

petri is a work horse . but no brains there is nothing prophetic about it. the game goes faster than him , if you want someone who passes the ball and doesn't create anything the petri is the man . but as far as kickin with tecnic and tactic , looking for a space or create one out of nothing ... i don't think so . you have to born a scrumhalf can't be made into one sorry , bergamasco was also made into a scrumhalf and he sucked , also michelack was made into a scrumhalf and he sucked . sorry 9 and 10 you have to be born you have to be smart , be ahead of the game see the field before anyone else can in a split second those things come naturally can't teach that mate. petri great athlete just not a tricky quick halfback. jut a ball passer. and to be honest there is a lot of that anyware , tolkin needs to keep friendship aside and pick someone who can carry the team a second faster we have great backs and backrow but slow 9. even kevin dalzell was 10 times fatser back in the days .lol

Petri was a game breaker in college too.. and has a few super league championships, and a few pretty strong international performances. Folks always get all prophetic after losses for some reason. Davies will have his opp to prove himself.

tolkin / petri connection . do we want to win ? we have shaun davies who is a game breaker and young full of will and heart to succeed but yet we choose petri and mose? is this a friendship? or we want to move forward and play the best? petri knows he got the spot and what you see of him is all we are gonna get . lets give davies a shot and we will see the change of pace .

I've been asking where Will Johnson has been for a while and maybe I missed where Mate was for this series In addtion all we heard for a while was how Pittman was the THP of the future and now we've pushed him to LHP and allowed Fry to muck things up especially when THD is the cornerstone of a good scrum. Fry is not a THD prop and just because he played prop a couple of times for Cal doesn't make him a great one I know Big Mike is getting up there but why is he coming off the bench....I'd rather have Him start and bring in the new body from France who looks monstrous or there have got to be a couple of guys in the SL or D1 who can step up

I've seen Shaun Davies do all that stuff... granted, against college teams, but he sure has the vision, creativity, speed, skills, etc etc.... I'm excited to see what he can do at this level with these players...

A lot of complaining about Petri and Fry, but few people proposing better ideas. Fry I think its easy, just get him out of there, our other props may not be awesome but they are better... To replace Petri, here is my crazy idea. Why not try Luke Hume at 9? I dont think it will ever happen because of the whole Petri/Tolkin connection, but I think its worth a shot. I have seen Hume play the ball off of the ruck in Rugby League and he is really dangerous and shifty from there. His passing is not bad either... and lets be honest, with Z, Wyles and Peterson, we can afford to have him somewhere else... Just an idea.

I will also say the young guys showed a ton of character, after losing to vets to red cards. I honestly think the young guys are better for having had this experience. It will taste bitter, but those lessons last long. There is a potential for a very nice nucleus growing, with the likes of Petri, Lavalla, Mokate, Biller and etc. Add Manoa and Z, maybe luck out and ID a prop that goes forward in both the loose and set piece... we are not too far away.
