Grant, Norwich women moved up to D1 this year...as they should have many years ago. Otherwise, I don't think non-D1 teams are excluded, just like last year, it's only that D1 conferences/leagues have to host the qualifying tournaments. However, there will still be at-large bids available for those that don't win conference tourneys.

You are so wrong. In 7s its anyone's game. I have seen a Junior college team made up of 18-20 year olds beat a top men's club in 7s.

Hey remember its 7s you never know what can happen, look at Dartmouth a school of only about 4k that is dominating the 7s scene, even after a successful 15's season more than you can say about the Cal Bears from this past spring. College rugby is starting to change, Cal is no longer feared and necessarily the model that teams are building after anymore with HS rugby developing around the country players are starting to stay home...MN has the Spearhead Rugby Academy, SJU just hosted East Palo Alto from California and a number of those players are going to be attending SJU and Minnesota those are former Cal/St Mary's/SDSU players that see there are opportunities and rugby outside of the region. It will happen someday the Cal run is done there is more and better rugby developing out there!

I'm to tired or numb to even make sense out of what USA Rugby is doing....Nigel go back to England, Mr. Roberts, I'm so disappointed in the results, from a CEO of the top Ad co. in the world, IRB stay at home and fix the financial mess in Ireland...please just leave U.S. alone. O and Dave S., I'd love to see you start playing again at the high school level.

It is all Norwich Womens fault!!! USA Rugby is trying to brand itself somehow and has lost 15's to Lindenwood, Davenport and Life so they are trying to keep 7's to the mainstream until next year when Kutztown wins it all and they figure out a way to keep minor D1-A and D1-AA teams out of it. Can't have St Johns or some other little D2 midwestern school winning it all over Cal or University of Texas, have to have a name to sell to the networks, it will turn into the USA Rugby's version of the CRC 7s an invitational!

USA Rugby shooting themselves in the foot again. Just because you're Div 1 in 15s...it means nothing in 7s. While I'm okay with a minimum number of D1 teams in a tournament...there are plenty of D2 teams that can get the job done in 7s; this is supposed to be about talent identification, right? There's plenty of great 7s talent in every division.

From USA Rugby... Division 2/NSCRO Schools There will be no 7’s Collegiate National Championships for the Div. 2/ Div. 3 NSCRO schools for 2012. The Competitions Committee would like to see a number of Conference and/or Non-Conference Div. 2 tournaments held in 2012 to lay the groundwork for a possible Div. 2/3 National Championship in 2013. So does that mean a D2 team cannot qualify through one of these qualifiying tournaments? Yet this event is open for both D1-A and D1-AA---
