Substitute Texas kid for UF's Stubbs (kid that delivered hits all weekend). I don't remember one thing the Texas guy did but get stepped and destroyed at breakdowns. UF's guy made a case by playing all but a few minutes and didn't get shoved off rucks or miss a tackle all weekend. Not to mention he scored tries in their big games. Also, Breske from UF deserved a mention. Oklahoma kid for Seamus Kelly. Maryland guy was awesome, best individual player of the tournament. Had a weaker supporting cast than Hughes and was awesome.

Tanifum said, as stated in the article, he wants to be an Eagle. I do think he has a good shot at making the 7s All Americans, and I would have him in my list, that's for sure.

There have been comments about few of the teams truly playing 7’s. Too many teams shoved the ball down the three quarter line or used their “star” player to try and break through or around their opposite man – both doomed to fail in most forms of high level sevens. If you look at the final, you will see Dartmouth repeatedly move the ball back inside, particularly in the second half where they had numbers. They could have scored more points by attacking, but instead opted for a disciplined sure fire win with a lower score. Had they not made so many errors in the process of scoring, the incredibly close Cal game would also have been a victory by more than 10 and Cal’s decision to be very defensive and hope to score on the break would have been put in true perspective.

And Reality summarily crushes himself by displaying an astonishing lack of knowledge. There is no such thing as an NCAA 7s anything since there is no such thing as NCAA rugby except for a few emerging NCAA sport women's teams. Like Cdex says, Life is a top 4 7s team. There is no legitimate national champion because of all the issues. It is more akin to boxing titles right now. No big deal. Good for debate and discussion, but let's leave the absolutist statements out of it.

Love all the discussion and passion going back and forth - some sane and others, well... Just to set the record straight, every one on Life's players meets this year's eligibility requirements and would meet next year's eligibility requirements. There are essentially 3 big 7s tournaments for college rugby - USA Rugby 7s, LVI and CRC. Life won two of them and Dartmouth won the other. "National Champion" is a matter of semantics. Can we at least agree that Life is a top 4 program in the country? As for not playing certain teams, they can only play the teams in front of them. Since the inception of their 7s program, Life's record is 20-2-1 against some great competition. Finally, the Life fan base was awesome! It was disappointing to see low fan turnout from most of the schools, especially the ones in close proximity to Philly. It would be great to see PPL stadium filled with fans as passionate and loud as Life's.

Dartmouth won the biggest name tournament with the most coverage and the best teams. The winner of the National 7s was a distant fourth after losing a third of their games and getting absolutely pummeled by Cal. Life had to qualify for the CRC. Every other team in the country had the opportunity to and failed. Dartmouth is the NCAA 7s national champion. The people who are arguing otherwise are ridiculous.

Dartmouth was the best team this weekend and they earned the CRC title. Arizona, Cal, Deleware and Life also looked strong. However, Dartmouth can't be given the title of National Champions, they have to earn it by winning the USA Rugby College Sevens National Championship. I hope they enter the National Championship this year because they'll make the tournament stronger (Cal and BYU too) It would be interesting to see a series of top level college sevens tournaments like they do with the IRB. Even the best IRB teams don't win every tournament. I'd love to see the best teams go at it over a span of time.

Dartmouth a full XVs season, losing in the semi-finals of D1-AA to eventual champion Davenport. Also, Dartmouth's coach was away much of the spring season coaching the USA 7s team. As for the CRC tournament and what it means, play in the tournament has improved each year. This year, Life came in a legitimate national champion, having won the USA Rugby tournament and beaten some truly great teams in Las Vegas (the final vs Utah was a great contest). Yet Life came in a distant 4th at the CRCs. Given that, the CRC has a legitimate claim to be the true national championship, this year at least.

In terms of selection for the teams that participated.. The CRC is a made-for-TV event.. That was expressed to me by officials with in NBC and USA 7's... also to attract viewership over a summer weekend on television, NBC does pick specific teams that have national recognition by popularity of their college football teams. After last years tourney, someone whispered in NBC's ear and said these teams aren't even the best teams in the country; that's why they created the qualifiers.. But the reasoning for the teams selected had a lot to do with fan travel-ibility and recognition and proximity to the event. and Brian Hightower is the worst analyst/commentator ever.

Rugbydad, not to take anything away from Life (who clearly was an elite team), but Dartmouth actually was the last team playing 15s (they were in Utah two weeks ago). Also, one of the two weeks since returning from Utah was filled with spring final exams. All of which makes their repeat even more impressive.
