I think that the promotion strategy is right on using colleges. No one has ever heard of any of the men's clubs. If you study sports history you can see that college football had a huge following while the NFL was drawing 50 people to a game. Read "The Galloping Ghost" - the story of Red Grange and how his play really got the NFL off the ground. It's a good read.

You are right that Hughes had a pedigree of achievement in England (lost only on the England selectors it seems) and it was not a total surprise to see the impact he had at the CRC’s. However, note that most of the Dartmouth team have been there for both winning years and they are an exceptionally talented group of seniors. Rugbymag is spot on when it said that Hughes made the Dartmouth squad better, but they were a fine group of players before he arrived too. Losing the Downer brothers and having Hughes and Derek Fisk came in, meant Dartmouth were competitive in both years. They will suffer with losing the senior year and may not come close to matching this double, but I hope they will continue to play sevens, regardless of the result.

Thats 6 out of how many teams?? Im not saying they arent talented because that is false. As a whole the CRC is very weak and publicity should be more focused on the mens league which is a higher more experience package to be broadcasted to a national audience. Why promote a sport with its minor league play??? you dont see minor league baseball with a better viewing platform than the MLB do you?

Numerous players from the CRC teams started for some of the top 7s teams in the country and are in the national team pool. Brad Harrington and Peter Tiberio play for the Chicago Lions 7s squad. JP Eloff and Rocco Mauer do as well. Mauer, Hawley, and Scully are all in the national team pool and have played at CRC over the last three years. That post is woefully uninformed.

It's not surprise Maddy is tearing up the US 7s scene, he was the stand-out player in his National-Cup winning school side back in England with many of his team mates in that same side representing England at age group level. Can expect big things of Maddy, his work ethic and attitude will take him to the top.

The college kids are atheltic but they are big fish in a very small pond. Most of the teams are elementary so being a good athlete gives them the ability to stand out. Not many of them would even come close to making a top mens 7s side and more publicity should be given the them this summer as the season is about to start.

Hope Mags was taking notes. Would love to see this Kid, Tanifum, and Thompson all have a shot at the national team. Time to roll out the old guys for these college kids who will be in their prime by Rio. USA 7s may take a hit for a year since theyd be so inexperienced, but the payoff would be huge in my opinion a few years down the road. Bring on the youth movement!
