Tim, as I wrote before SL did it a few years ago in a match between NYAC and Belmont in Glendale. I watched the match with a house full of friends and family as did friends across the country that I called and asked them to watch. (that's what helps to build a following...seeing a good match on TV). SL is not getting any sponsors as so few people even know SL exists, so in the short term forget about $ coming from sponsors. If lack of money was involved in deciding where the game was played and the level of coverage then USA Rugby needs to help defray some of the cost. No-one seems to be marketting the product (SL) and without fans and a large following you won't get sponsors because they will see no chance for ROI (return on investment.)You have to showcase the best this country has in rugby, which means spending/finding the money. Build a large fan base and SL will get sponsors. Tim, you are a stand-up guy!

Pops, thanks for your understanding ... as a sports TV professional myself I hold my work to the highest professional standards, even when working with limited resources. I couldn't agree more about the desirability of getting games such as the RSL final on national sports networks. However, to do this properly, even with basic professional coverage, would cost $30-40,000 minimum ... so we have to build sponsors who see value in rugby and who can help us find such a budget. I hope this is something I can help rugby in the USA do in the months and years to come.

As a neutral fan coming to watch the game with my 11 year old son I was horrified by the behavior of Serevi on the sidelines during the final. He continually taunted NYAC players and fans while running up and down the sideline. Very disturbing to see a man who has a company built around him that shapes young players to act in such a manner.

Tim, no need to apologize. A final SL match should have been done and aired professionally as it was a few years ago when the final was played in Glendale and aired on ESPN with professional commentators. Not your fault at all.

As the person responsible for the RSL championship webcast I just want to apologize to anyone unable to watch or hear the game. We'd previously webcast several OPSB games without any problems. The greatest challenge to a successful webcast from the rugby field is the fact that it's in the middle of nowhere and we have to use a wifi hotspot device to send the video stream. It may also be the case that the blustery conditions contributed to the connection problems. The good news, however, is that I will be uploading the entire game to livesportsvideo .com shortly so that anyone who missed the game can watch it. Once again my apologies for the disappointing quality of the webcast.

Pops is correct. I guess I could stomach the in-season amateur broadcasts (a camera set up usually accompanied with drivel from local guys in the background and broadcasts that had to be re-booted constantly... if working at all), but not to have the Final of the supposed top league in the States properly displayed is more than a shame - flat out ridiculous.

SL administration and USA Rugby should be ashamed of themselves over the quality of the telecast. Such a great match played by 2 great teams, played by many top players, some of whom are on the National Team, in the top league in the country, and they can't get that match on some secondary espn station or such?! High school finals, yes, but not SL?! And to have it webcast with no play by play commentary with signal going out and losing the webcast throughout the match was extremely frustrating. Congratulations NYAC, hats off to OPSB, but shame on those that run SL and USA Rugby!
