The lads at St. Greg's practice 5 days a week. The Highlanders have built a strong tradition and though the school has less than 60 students, the quality of Rugby and dedication is incredible. That penalty tap to win the championship was final proof of their preparation and heart. Like so many St. Joe's parents kept shouting, the lads in red were much smaller, but rarely have I seen such tackling and rucking. They have much to be proud of. An incredible accomplishment for the lads at an incredible school.

Correction: The loss to West Shore was in a preseason scrimmage and was not an official match. I was at the game and St. Greg's did not start all of its starters, including the #15 who was their best kicker, who made a drop-goal and scored 2 tries against Burrell in the semi's and added 11 points in the final. So, yes it was an undefeated season. Preseason scrimmages are never counted in overall records.

@SRobinson correct though I thought the score was actually 7-5 but I think highlanderrugby was referring to their regular season record the west shore game was a preseason match. They also beat every team at the tournament. They beat Joes twice which is alway a extra tough thing. They beat Shannahan earlier in the playoffs and Burrell. Its really a shame that Gregs didn't get a shot at Gonzaga in a full length game. The tournament game early in the year was tremendous if only for 40 minutes and didn't decide a victor. @apple I disagree. Burrell's forward pack was dominant and probably averaged 25 pounds heavier than gregs; and on a smaller field they would be able to control the game. They were just incapable of slowing down St. Gregs in the open field and were never able to get a breakaway. St. Gregs and Joes were the better teams but Burrell deserves a high slot.

@Highlanderrugb y, St. greg's was one of the best poaching, rucking teams ive seen at the high school level. I dont think St. Joe's had one poach. St. Greg's is a boarding school right? how often do they practice?

St. Greg's looked really, really good this weekend and were deserving winners of the State Championship. They were not undefeated however. They lost 10-5 to West Shore United early in the season.

Let's not get carried away with Burrell and their ranking. If anything, they were vastly underrated the past two years. The games this weekend were 70 minutes, not 20 or 30 or 40. St Greg's was up on them 21-0 at the 20 minute mark, and Burrell came back to 34-31, with possession, with a few minutes to play. If the game had gone on any longer, Burrell was surging and had shown they belonged. If penalties killed SGA, they were repeated and deliberate, not result of a bad ref. Not to take away from SGA, they were skilled and played fantastic in that semi...regret I couldn't see the final vs. SJP

Burrell was way over ranked. All three of the Eastern PA teams were clearly better. St.Greg's tied Gonzaga and lost to West Shore in a nail bitters in early tournaments this year. Joe's could have creamed Burrell. Joe's had some big wins early this year as well. Greg's should have blown out Burrell but got killed by penalties in the second half.

St. Gregory's Academy 24-18 St. Joe's Prep An excellent match all around. It was a war out there, but the smaller lads in red came out on top. The game winning try came off of an incredible trick penalty tap that caught St. Joe's off-guard. The score was 18-14 at the time rather late in the second half. St. Greg's added a penalty as they held off Prep. Everything one could hope for in a final. Congratulations to the Highlanders as they completed an undefeated (11-0) season! They are deservedly the State Champions!!!
