Despite my good natured ribbing I wish the ARC best of luck. T5.5 have the vision and dedication to build a game-changing conference. And A&M are an established power we in Texas should strive to emulate.

As predicted, A&M, the most funded club in Texas, comes crawling back after calling out other teams in Texas for not wanting to play the best competition. Of course they can't simply join the successful new conference structure created in their absence but have to destroy it on their terms. , It makes no sense to include OU given the number of teams in Texas. They are 6 hours away from every team they would play next year. The battle over Texas' playoff spot will be interesting to watch. I would hope the TRU rejects this conference and forces these teams to merge within the existing divisions. What precedent would you be creating? What happens if in the next realignment, Texas or Texas State don't like where they are and decide to take a few DII schools and the University of Ciudad Juarez and start their own conference? Just rename TRU to A&MRU.

StateRugger, the idea of the SWC bringing in teams including OU and ATM and forming a super conference with North/South divisions was offered, and widely supported. T5 1/2 were even going to have a place in running parts of the conference. But at the last hour, the Aggies showed their true colors and decided to start their own conference. Sad to see their true self-serving priorities like this. The SWC would've been very strong and really made a mark on the collegiate rugby landscape.

This is probably Arkansas State's best option if D1-A folds after this year. I wonder if the ARC let them in, or if they'll try to avoid those whippings...

Which members besides Sam Houston were offered spots from the Southwest Rugby conference. It seems if Texas rugby wants to go to the next level then they should have one conference that brings out the best competition. The weaker teams then should drop to division two.

The guys running the ARC are probably the best suited for the job. They've got good contacts and a great business plan that seeks to provide a quality product to the teams that sign on. Good on 'em!

SWC 2012-13 UT, Rice, UNT, Houston, Texas State, TCU, Baylor ARC 2012-13 OU, Sam Houston, St. Ed's, Texas A&M, Texas Tech This would be much more efficient: SWC North UNT, TCU, OU, Texas Tech SWC Central Baylor, Sam Houston, Texas A&M, St. Ed's SWC South Texas, Texas State, Rice, Houston Comeptition format: Each team plays home/away in their region. The top seed from each conference plus 1 wild card with the best record. But alas, that would be wayyy tooo logical and not beneficial for those politicking for their team… if “low-cost” and great competition are stated goals of T5 ½ than why would they support such a format? I won't get into the self-serving and disingenuous reasons I believe this conference is being created... rather I'll keep my argument to the stregths of having just one conference. Namely, the best team possible will come out of Texas/Oklahoma possible.

Hmmm. I have some idea of how it got to this point. But in spite of the history, the idea of A&M, OU, & Sam Houston in one conference while Texas and Texas State play in another - all in D1-AA - just seems silly.
