Army and Life have these facilities well. How about playoffs being only at venues that can assure reasonable webcasting. That would be an incentive to improve things for all schools.

You are entitled to your opinion of course; however in my 40 years of Marketing experience I was responsible for and saw others develop a "brand" out of thin air. If this were not possible, there would never be a new product introduced. It's called Market Development. One way for these guys to have begun this, would have been to mix branded and unbranded in the tournament, thereby introducing great rugby teams by way of the "branded" audience. It is my opinion that sports fans would rather see good rugby than mediocre rugby. As important to all this is the quality of the announcers, which to date has been awful. The final four of the tournament should be there, branded or not.

@BYUForever OK, you can see a Webcast. BUT..... It's a single camera shoot, with no replay, no score displayed on the screen, a single commentator, and shot from a platform where pipes (yes pipes) get in the way of seeing critical action down by the try line! Put the darn camera in a position that doesn't get obstructed by the platform! Jeez, guys. I can't believe you can't figure this out! This is kid stuff! Contrast this with BYU's Webcast which had a play-by-play guy and a color guy, 6 cameras, instant replay, titles, scores and everything that makes a broadcast REAL. And this was without the involvement of BYU Broadcasting. The team marshaled the resources on its own to put the games on the Web in a first-quality fashion without University funding because they believe in the power of marketing! Fans are fans because they can consistently see their team. They stay involved because the team goes out of its way to involve them.

@branding You miss the point. When you dismiss branding, you dismiss profitability. The key issue is butts in seats and dollars revenue per contest. Did anyone but BYU make money from hosting their playoff game? Was a title sponsor willing to pitch in serious dollars (that might equalize or partially defray last-minute travel expenses) attracted to the competition? Without branding, you have a no-name championship with no serious broadcasting. So, dismiss it if you will, but the issue ain't goin' away.

Yes, BYU vs. Life will definitely be a great game. Funny thing, the final score, 75-3, of the Penn State-Life game was announced over the loudspeaker at the BYU-UCLA game just after the half or so ... and I could swear that BYU played with twice the intensity after hearing that announcement! FYI, I found the link to the live feed utilized by Life University (posted in a different RugbyMag.com article) to show their match against Penn State: http://www.livesportsvideo.com/teamselector.asp?subcat2=Life%20University&sport=Rugby I assume this is the same site they will use to webcast the BYU vs. Life match. You just have to create a username and password to get free access to their live video feed.

BYU vs life all be more exciting than the championship game. I want BYU to win, not just because I'm a huge fan, but because it will draw tons of fans. last year at Rio tinto we had over 10000 people show. And we all can agree that more exposure is good for the sport.

BYU vs Life at Life is going to be a thriller. I think BYU will pull it out but it will be close. These are the type of games that USA Rugby needs to promote. Evenly matched, fast, strong, and skillful. I hope it is webcast.
