[quote name="PA Player+Coach"] Simple, truthful, realistic facts. USA is simply TOO BIG to have a National Champion. That may be one of the dumbest opinions i've ever heard. USA is too big? The most financially advantaged country in the world cant handle sports transport? within a community of people that pay a tuition that dwarves the yearly income of an average european household? Please pay attention...rugby has the best financial ability to establish a 'true' national champion than any other sport. We have no title 9 restrictions, no equipment overhead, and we're completly self governing. We should be the example of how a college sports championship should be run. You opinion is foolish, shortsited, and lacking of a desire. An opinion that should never be represented by a player, coach, team, or member of our community in general.

Have you sent a similar rant to USA Rugby, RugbyMag, and other media outlets or is this just to me? I said "seems" in my original post/observation of the events. SEEMS Verb: Give the impression or sensation of being something or having a particular quality Used to make a statement or description of one's thoughts, feelings, or actions less assertive or forceful. If you want to share, share here. Besides, if you wanted to talk you would have signed your post w/YOUR email. Or, better still, call Rugby Mag and speak to Pat, Jackie or Alex and give them to scoop to print. Gumption-I have plenty. Time to waste on the phone with someone who does not SEEM to respect my right to share my opinion on a comment board where I am a member-zero. Don't tell me to "keep it moving and lock my lips." I enforced democracy for years. I get to practice it now.

Unfortunately, the girls involved in the RU incident should have come forward. Instead they brought the remainder of their teammates down with them that weren't even involved. It is very sad, and yes heartbreaking.

I certainly don't blame the university for their sanction imposed upon the team. Seems that someone (team members) did not value their opportunity long before it got to an administrator's desk. You my friend, are talkin out of the side of your mouth. You have no idea what anyone 'valued' during this event. IF you've played rugby and IF you were even socially gifted enough to be a part of the 'culture' that rugby cultivates, and only IF you really knew the circumstances of the event, should you have any opinion here. If you'd like to talk about it, you can call me. I'll be more than happy to give you the details, rather than hear any more of your worthless banter. Provide your email address and I'll write you my number IF you have any gumption. Otherwise keep it moving and lock your lips.

No and the Pacific Northwest isn't So. Cal either, but they play throughout the year in snow and ice. Also, not sure why WSU is being brought up in this article since it's not about them. They also weren't the only team that had to forfeit last year. It's really unfortunate that school funding is the issue and people are acting like it's the team's fault.

I actually wrote an opinion article about this several months ago. The main issues, as they will always be is geography and money. Geography will place limitations on length of the seasons as well as distance of matches. Money will restrict what clubs can manage. Simple, truthful, realistic facts. USA is simply TOO BIG to have a National Champion. Rugby in N. Hemisphere(Euro pe) works because there's 40+ competetive teams within 2 hours EVERYWHERE. Rugby in S. Hemisphere works because those teams break themselves into territories. Example "Australia has not had a continent-wide rugby competition, but structured the game around regional club competitions". USA could follow this same format. Instead of a single national champion, align those elements (geography and money). Divide the country into geographic territories and be OK with being your territorial champion. SO-Cal keep their season how they want, NE keep their season how they want.

No one is saying it is "So. Cal". However, NE could've played another two or three weeks easy. It is simply ridiculous that NE is playing a "Regional" bracket months after the four teams ended their seasons. With Olympic 7s interest on the rise, recognize the elephant in the room. 15s in the fall (more playable time across the nation) and 7s in the spring (more games can be played in a given weekend) as the overall season can be shorter though number of games the same. (Think how track teams or hockey teams host invitationals.) The method at the moment has outlived itself and open discussions need to occur to grow. Plans can't serve 1 school or region; but should be guided by desired growth and exposure. No, it is not a So. Cal thing. It IS a RUGBY thing.

Not to mention there are numerous issues with when schools start/end. Some leagues would have to squeeze their entire season into a 10 week window, including nationals.

It is very sad what happened to the Rutgers team. The girls were devoted and worked hard to get to this level. Yes,I totally agree that the University could have taken other actions, but chose not to. Too quick to judge and not even listen. Not only did it do damage to the morale of the team, coaches, and parents but to the future of the Rugby Club.
