"Most college homes games have only hardcore fans or parents of the players standing around some intramural field in the corner of campus. By contrast CRC is a professionally run event in a great stadium with concessions, clean bathrooms, jumbotron, etc. People with even slight interest in rugby may be interested in attending this once-a-year event. They may not be interested in standing in the mud next to a porta-potty or dragging their folding chair to the intramural field." As a bit of a side comment to this, why are American sports fans such snobs? I'm one myself, but why are we so spoiled? Rugby fans are not willing to be rugby fans unless there's some shiny stadium with clean bathrooms? A world of good that did stuff like the Churchill Cup by the way which was also played in a shiny stadium with clean bathrooms.

Dom "The Hitman" DeFalco of Penn State. Indeed. Yet another Xavier Rugby alum. Depending on who makes their team's CRC roster, there could be as many as 13 former Xavier ruggers playing at the CRCs in June: Jimmy Kowalski and his four former Xavier teammates playing for Delaware; the aforementioned Mr. DeFalco and Mike Erickson and their former Xavier teammates Jersey Joe Corrado, Cam McFeely, Chris Petri and Greg Voigt playing for Penn State; and Cal's Seamus Kelly and his former Xavier teammate Pat Coleman.

Front Row-- I'll agree with you that there is a big difference between a regular season club match and the CRC. Still 500 fans is a steep number for a program like Delaware. Even if they got a max turn out of Alumni, say 200, plus parents say 60 and the rest of the club plus girlfriends say 80, that leaves 160 short of 500. You might think what about other students? To which I say what makes you think that a student would rather drive 26 miles to pay for a ticket and beer when they can get the same thing on campus for free or nearly free? Non-rugby alumni that live in the Philly area? The same ones that don't show up for basketball games? No they will either be at the Jersey Shore,at the Dewey Beach, or going to a Phillies game. I am hope I am wrong, I hope Delaware has a huge turnout but I am certain it won't happen.

And besides Jimmy Kowalski, there will be four other Xavier alums on Delaware's CRC roster: the captain, Danny Tomai-- who also captained that 2007 Xavier football team that included Jimmy the K, Seamus Kelly (Cal) and Mike Erickson (Penn State)-- Stevie Sanchez, John Gearity and Chris Mattina. Xavier Nation is famously close knit and fiercely loyal to their own. They will be coming south to Philly in large numbers come June.

You gotta be kidding. There is a big difference in viewer experience between CRC and club rugby.
I will never understand the logic some of you bring to these discussions...Does Delaware even attract 500 warm, human bodies to their home matches? How could it be expected for them to drag 500 people 26 miles north to PPL Stadium? Does OSU draw 500 people to their matches? Delaware probably has a hard time drawing 500 people to baseball and lacrosse games much less rugby matches and probably can't get 500 people to travel to a basketball game at Villnova, Penn, Drexel or Delaware State. Only the elite of the elite could be expected to draw over 500 for a home match or maybe a big rivalry game for other schools. And the elite of the elite might be able to pull 500 to a game that is 26-50 miles away. Your standards are out of line with real life. Go ahead and hate.

Every single article about CRCs there is at least one comment from someone mad about why kutztown isn't in it. No one watching NBC has heard of Kutztown, my browser spell check hasn't heard of them either. and when it comes down to it, they lost in 2011, 2012 Vegas, didn't make it out of Marfu Mens 7s, and didn't win 2011 national 7s championships. Their only way in being such a small unheard of school is to win Vegas, you are not in it because you did not win.

Delaware got invited not so much because of quality of their rugby team but because it is a local team (campus is located less than 30 miles from the stadium), and they will be expected to bring some fans into the seats. If Delaware fails to bring at least 500 fans to the stadium they will probably not be invited next year, like Ohio State lost their invite for failing to fill the stadium in Columbus. Maybe then Kutztown will be given a chance, since they are also located in Philadelphia area. It seems that this year the tournament managers were deciding between Delaware and Kutztown, and went with Delaware because it is a marginally better "brand".
