Agreed, I bet Dave Niu was straight on the phone when he heard the news. The AMNRL is setup to look more "professional" than rugby at this point. So, it is a very realistic possibility that League would get a similar deal in the near future. I am a hugh fan of 7s and think it is the easiest way to get the sport into schools. I feel like an endorsement of sorts from the NFL can only help legitimize rugby in the eyes of football coaches. I love 15s, but 7s is far more practical of a platform for starting out in all schools. I would like to see 7s incorporated as a Track & Field event. Imagine every high school in the country with a boys and girls 7s team. Those kids playing club 15s on the weekends. Granted, like brownj12 said, this is about filling airtime more than anything else. However, people will think whatever they will...

I don't see the NFL wanting to do this, atleast not yet. There is big risk for them and little reward. They would look really bad if they entered a team and they lost. They want their athletes to look like the best in the world and quite frankly even a team of NFL superstars would not beat a team like Samurai this year, they would need more time to develop. That isn't even including the injury risk or anything like that. This is great news (more rugby on TV and more exposure for rugby) but it isn't the NFL supporting rugby. It is the NFL trying to find a show that fits the interest of its target demographic. They play arena football on NFL network as well. Bottom line they think rugby appeals to their viewers and don't see this new league as a threat.

I don't know whether or not this brings the game closer to the NFL but it would not be a bad thing. Long term the NFL will need to grow if it wants to make more $ .. and rugby could be brought in in some form on the cheap as a spring game to make use of stadia. Just be sure that if that happens that LEague does not get the jump ... if that were to happen .. ugh. If the NFL gets behind rugby then the posibilties are endless ... access to players, facilities ... real $$$ ...

The Grand Prix isWhatever "they" want it to be. Nation on Nation; Club v Club; I assume it will be "Samurai type teams" from all over the world competing for a million dollar prize or something like that. I would also assume the NFL would want to slip their own team into that action, if it wasn't too much of a conflict of interest.

PS. NFL network needs lots of programing (year round) since they don't even have priority rights to most of their own games...you can only talk about the draft for so darn long...then watch another network broadcast it...

Oh Yeah!!! Guess what World? The Sleeping Giant just heard the alarm clock in 2012... ...please do something to shake him, World Rugby... ...please start sending "some footy attitude" our way, please; tell us how superior your runners, tacklers, athletes are... ...bad news is all you Rugby lifers out there; you better be in it for the "love of the game" because soon the NFL will be making all the profits and supplying most of the product. Each (of the 32 teams) can each easily pamper a (fully loaded 7s) team for the price of a back up linebacker
