This decision doesn't affect the Austin Blacks so Alan Sharpley didn't have to form any ad-hoc committees to get his way. Instead he just decided to invalidate the Dallas Harlequins D3 side in order to elevate Austin D3 to first place in Texas.

I thought USA Rugby in their infinite wisdom solved all these problems last year when Aspen folded and the boys went to Glendale? They weren't allowed to play either and it just more of the same at the national office...

ruggerstatus: The better question is, would there have been a Utah Brothers side had the Warriors not buckled? My guess is probably not! While I understand that it is hard having to make your own schedule is both burdensome and financially astute, picking and choosing opponents does not sound very competitive. Sure the Brothers would have probably played any D1 Club, but any Club with common sense would not play the Brothers if there was a Playoff spot on the line. But we both agree that the bigger issue is the PCRFU and USA Rugby!

The Utah 6 game schedule requirement is very difficult, in the sense that the teams whom agree to play Utah, Provo, Haggis, whoever are usually in geographically adjacent Unions who would be giving up a playoff seed for a team in their own Union should a Utah team qualify. So why would any team in the Pacific Coast Union (Norcal or Socal) agree to assist a Utah team to qualify, thus giving up one of their spots in the playoffs? Seems conflicted to me, but props to the PCRFU teams that have played the Utah teams for the sport of it. Not as many props to USA Rugby for making it difficult for Utah teams to qualify without massive travel involved, let alone the gracious teams that agree to play. To quote O Brother Where Are Thou, it would seem that the Utah rugby teams are caught up in "some sort of geographical anomaly" and that USA Rugby complicates things for all who "seek the tray-sure". Rant over.

Utah Warriors failed to meet Super League regulations - not Utah Brothers. Check the roster - and the owner/coach - you will notice that many of the players are actually not from the original Warriors - so don't put these boys in their shadow. Bottom line - PCRFU and USA Rugby (as agreed) are keeping clubs from playing what they're paid to regulate - RUGBY. This is why USA still isn't at the level they should be in rugby standings internationally . We keep doing ourselves in from within.

The Nor Cal/ Utah situation, is just another fine example of how unorganised USA Rugby remains. Any such grievance to play in the Playoffs, should have been handled Weeks ago. It is not fair to inform any Team last second that they are in or out of the Playoffs. Additionally, how can a Team that failed to meet Super League criteria (Utah Brothers) put together their own schedule and qualify for Playoffs! Just saying.
