When did i bash my coach? I said Evans is now like Gelwix in the Respect form. Coach Evans is an incredible coach. He is a more of a players coach. He has more fun with his players but still knows when to kick it in high gear. I never bashed my coaches and i have nothing but the out most respect for both of them. It's like your parents. They have faults but you love them to death and would never disrespect them in anyway. Are both parents alike? No. Are both coaches alike? No. Are my parents the greatest parents i could have? Yes. Are my coaches the greatest coaches i could have? Yes. They are both different people and i love them for it.

So, bashing your coach in a public forum is OK? No way. Like I said, it sounds like you ought to go play for someone else.

I'm not bashing my team. I love my team to death. I'm being honest becaue i am sick of people comparing us to Highland. You don't see Herriman comparing themaselves to Highland. All i'm saying is Highland waqsm great team with high standards. Thats why they were so succesful. That is what coach Gelwix demanded from his players. Coach Evans does not demand it in the way Gelwix did. We have a lot of fun and are more relaxed. We are just starting as a new program so i wish peiople would stop judging us.

Wow, myboi, getting on here and bashing your own team in public? Cmon, man, that's low. I guess you are not getting the playing time you think you deserve, huh? Sounds to me like you need to find a new program to play for

@rugbybaby What about the starting hooker from last years team Kingston? He's returning. What about the starting flank Solo? He is returning? I'm not saying anything bad about my own team. I just know that we do not have the same values. We can get away with a lot more. Just look at how we play. We are a lot less disaplined then we have been in the past. We are rebuilding right now. New name, new team, new STARTING players. It's a whole new attitude at TRYBE.

With respect to the transformation of the Nationals from a play-in to an invitational format, USA Rugby has stated its case and its opponents have weighed in with their arguments. Let's give the new system a chance. The old system was not perfect, either. Especially absurd was the practice of determining the seeding of each year's tournament based on how each region's representative did the year before. The reality was that some schools/U19 clubs from areas of the country where rugby is less developed were not nearly as good as excluded schools and clubs from developed regions. I believe USA Rugby was correct to switch the emphasis to local- and state-based championship models as the way to develop and expand rugby at the high school level. No other high school sport relies on regional playoffs and a national championship as its primary competition model. That system made sense when rugby schools/U19 clubs were few and far-flung. That era has passed.

I think it's safe to say that Highland was Larry Gelwix and Larry Gelwix was Highland. I always thought that Highland would not survive Larry's departure-- I just didn't think it would happen immediately. That is one problem with having a stand-alone U19 rugby club not connected to a school or a senior club. Xavier High School has four head coaching changes since the program was established in 1976 without missing a beat. And spare me the malarkey about Highland honor and integrity. The reports about overaged and/or nonresident and/or nonstudent players have dogged the program since its inception. I coached Xavier against Highland in 1979 when it was still Highland High School Rugby, and my players, who were billeted with the Highland players, told me that their hosts freely admitted that there were players in the lineup against us who had graduated the year before. Could such practices be why Highland High School dropped the program in the 1980s?

Trybe riding HRs coat tails to nationals is the only option, though, because USA Rugby went to this stupid invitational setup where teams cannot play their way in, and past merit is the only thing that counts.

The differences between Trybe and Highland are,but not limited to:SOME of the coaches and SOME of the same players, but most of HRs varsity players from last year with the U19 going away are just too old for the high school required age. They may be the younger HR players from the JV or even froshsoph, but not many of the varsity team. They are different teams.Trybe is NOT formerly Highland.I don't necessarily like the idea of riding on HRs name to nationals. Trybe hasn't proven themselves. That isn't a dig at Trybe,it's just a plain fact.I'd like to see them be their own team and have their own successes. The pictures of players wearing HR jerseys on the Trybe website are from last summer and(I'm assuming)they borrowed some jerseys until they had their own.The Highland Rugby board looks to preserve the integrity of the Highland Rugby name, and therefore had some say in how to carry on the name for any team that might follow Gelwix.Maybe some didn't want to comply.Just a guess.

Check your information. There is not a single significant player who played for Highland last year and is playing for someone else this year. Not one. There are a couple of boys who were good 10th graders who did not play this year, but that is about it. The difference is the foreign-born players, and I for one applaud Trybe for playing with all local boys, even if they take a loss in transition. This is still a very good team with the same core values as before. They lost a LOT of talent to graduation.
