Fact about this game is.. it was good, but BYU seriously played bad and still put a pretty decent win on St.Marys. Shawn Davies only hit 3 of 10 kicks, and left over 18 pts on the field, Where he usually is way better than that.. BYU also knocked on, gave away penalties, and threw away oportunities that they usually close on while attacking with in the 22m.. SO.. although it was a good game and Byu won.. St.Marys is pretty lucky the score wasnt A LOT more than it was. I was there, i saw it, im not bashing St.Marys.. they are definately a great team.. Im just saying BYU left atleast 25-30 pts out there that they should have capatalized on.

BYURugby4ever, I dont care about SMC or BYU. My point was that in every article in the world of sports journalism, who was injured will be mentioned. And rugby mag follows suit. If SMC fans want to follow up on that and say "that is why we lost," THEN excuses are being made. But the mere listing of injured players does not mean excuses are made. It is another fact of the game like the weather. I know you are the biggest BYU rugby lover of all time and anything that you perceive as even hinting that BYU isnt the greatest team of all time will cause you to impulsively defend what isnt being attacked. So I dont expect you to grasp what I am saying.

Some coach said "BYU is for real" I said "St Mary's is for real" Now I agree "BYU is for real" Will we see a Cal vs BYU match, because I think Cal loses this one by two tries...Cal and BYU and St Mary's and Cal Poly all seem to be in their own category of competitiveness , all separated by huge wins or losses...

I had written up a full response to your comment, but I can't help but just say: "Hey, it is what it is." Most all the time in Rugby, both sides come into a match with an injury list. Whatever team is fielded is the team that wins or loses ... not the theoretical one created by analysts. And as bitter a pill as that is to swallow, believe me, BYU has had its bottle's worth in the last decade against Cal. Sadly, no level of justification, fact-finding, and/or fault-issuing over a loss ever equaled a win against the Bears. The news isn't who couldn't perform because they were injured ... it's who didn't perform when taking their spot on the pitch. Final note: St. Mary's has 14 more players listed on their roster than does BYU. Infer what you will ...

I'm getting sick of people crying about excuses being made every time the fact that a team has injured players is mentioned. The fact that they had 3-4 starters, and potential All Americans btw, injured is an important fact to take into consideration when evaluating this game and what it means in the future of this season. Injuries are ALWAYS discussed in post-game articles in EVERY sport. Get. Over. It.
