I honestly say a better idea would be why not hold off nationals till the states single high school and high school club team compete in there state championships. Then host a national championship to find the true champion by inviting every states champion from the single high school and high school club. That's just my honest suggestion about it.

It seems they should look at moving the tournament later. How can you compete for a "national championship" when you don't even know if you've won your league, let alone your state? Championships should be based on results, not brand names.

So between the Collegiate Sevens and this new High School "format", if you don't already have a team name that "sells" and/or big enough budget to travel, you don't get to claim a national title, right? So it's a business qualification, not a merit one based upon current results. Very encouraging for people willing to grow the game and bring on new teams: the whole thing is already staged!

Weaver said that a benefit of this tournament is that it will not interfere with SBROs and that now they will not have to end their seasons early. This would be a great idea if it were true, but it is not. If you look at the SBRO schedules last year when teams still played into the tournament, virtually all states conducted their championships AFTER the nationals. Virtually the only states that ended earlier were a few southern states that start their seasons very early and Oregon/Washington, who did not participate in the Nationals. This is a case of the Youth Committee of USA Rugby deciding to "fix" something that was not broken and much to the detriment of the competitive spirit of the National Tournament.
