I totally agree. The RSL set up is cancerous for local rugby. A rep system makes much more sense IF the goal is to get the best players from an area on the field together. However, USAR benefits in having the Club based RSL do all of the organizing and scheduling and ultimately paying for this league.

I have never been a RSL fan. Teams dropping out every year and the competition ends right when it starts to get going. Why doesn't the RSL and D1 get together to form 6 to 8 regional conferences. Southern Cal, Pacific, Western, Mid West, Southern and Eastern. Then have the top 8 teams play a round robin to decide the champion. This reduces the travel cost and hopefully the fixture list. Why not look at a season similar to the Super 15 with a threee week break for international rugby.

The problem I have with the RSL is it doesn't get the best players from any area playing on the same team. Instead of being a rep team and promoting players from local clubs it competes with the local clubs for there best players. What we need are city based all star teams that play outside of club season and preferably used as a build up to our international season. Even if it's only 4 games for a month a year.

we have been talking about this for 10 years. this is a country club league (RSL) collectivly spent over 10 million since its first year. for what? whalen should be thanked for taking a risk. not ridiculed for temporary problems.

heres a non-scoop for you: warriors are toast. that sean whalen guy totally bailed on the team and left them with no $$$ for the season. him and the team captains had a epic falling out because of all the false promises (training facility? try a unheated garage!!!) and sponsors being pissed. then sika left, old news, and even if warriors have enough juice to qualify for the game against denver, they dont have enough $$ to travel the following week.
