According to Cal this was not the side that played against UBC, the Saturday before. No doubt this was not Cal's best side, no doubt this was not Poly's best side...only 5 seniors took the pitch, injuries, and first year players. Interesting that Poly is the only team to beat a Cal side, regular season since 2004 (other than UBC). But Cal values the "World Cup" greatly, Cal is still very good, and others are rising up to them. Poly looks like they are making a return to the team they built 2002-2005. Hope Coach Burnett makes a long stand in SLO!

Congrats and kudos to Cal Poly on the win over Cal! I still can't get over seeing the headline ... great to hear. The list of teams that have defeated Cal in any circumstance is quite short, and I think the bit about the 2004 Cal-Poly win is interesting. My respects. Here's looking forward to watching Cal Berkeley play Utah this Saturday ... who knows and maybe they'll drop one to the Utes at home!?!? I can't speak for Utah fans, but I know I won't be the only 'interested' BYU fan in attendance! :D

What a screwed up system if Cal is granted a move to D1-AA. And by the way, the relatively young Cal Poly team was down a couple of key senior forwards. Good game Poly!

[quote name="In the interests of full disclosure and journalistic integrity, I would like to know if there is a relationship between RugbyMag and Cal Rugby. The RugbyMag game report is identical to the game report on Cal's website. This is not new. Take a look back at RugbyMag's previous stories about Cal. Those stories often appear verbatim on Cal's website. Is Cal stealing RugbyMag's stories? Does Alex Goff write both? Very little of what you read on this site was written by Goff or his partners. Quite a few of the match reports are simply press releases from one of the relevant clubs (or maybe he edits and compiles a release from BOTH clubs). Nothing nefarious going on, but RugbyMag is, to a large extent, just a press release aggregator.

And just a few weeks ago UCLA beat Cal Poly 36-24, but were demolished by Cal 58-0 just a couple weeks prior to the Cal Poly game. What does it all mean? Cal put out a frosh/soph side and got burned. Or, did they mean it? JC now has an argument to take to the appeal to get his side into the D1-AA competition. I can hear him spin it now, "..., but we lost to a D1-A team just a week ago."

If you compare the line up listed on Cal's website to the roster on Cal's website, you will see that they started 1 freshman, 4 sophmores, 4 juniors, and 6 seniors. Cal's 6 subs included 1 freshman, 2 soph, 2 jr, and 1 sr. 3 freshmen played. That is not "largely freshman" as described in this article. In the interests of full disclosure and journalistic integrity, I would like to know if there is a relationship between RugbyMag and Cal Rugby.
