Mid level??? Seriously??? Bone up on college rugby history, rankings, and playoff appearances, Poly has been a force since 1989 and like all programs, all sports they have up and down times. The decision to let Cal step down WOULD not be influenced by a SINGLE game after Cal knocked off UBC (a top Canadian team). This is delusional and you should change "Su[censored, don't use this word]ious Mind" to "Tin Foil Mind".

This was an exciting game. And it should be noted that Poly was down three starting forwards as well. This Poly team is for real. Both in 7's and 15's. Great win boys!

Interesting that Cal loses to a mid level D1-A team the same week that they are petitioning the decision to not let them play in D1-AA. JC works all the angles.

Cal Poly Player says:

This article doesn't seem to represent the game very well at all. Yes Cal came in with a mixed side and probably not the starters they put up against BYU but starters nonetheless. last year we got destroyed by cal by over 40 points. The difference this year was our physicality and composure. The physicality on both teams the entire match was incredible and unrelenting. Both our wings, landis nasser and dom ferri literally laid themselves out to stop a few run breaks cal players had that were much larger than themselves, one of which resulted in a severe concussion for dom with 10 minutes left in the match, get well soon man. Cal i want to say is one hell of a classy team, not starting fights or anything when we were up. I think if you ask any of them they'll admit it was a hard fought match and we deserved that win. Basically it comes down to the last 63 matches cal's won with the same strategy they used against us, but this time we won. Great game Cal, Great win Cal Poly

As a die hard Mustang fan and alumni, I wonder how green that Cal Reserve side was or if the Mustangs were that good on the day? The 2004 match referenced above resulted in a 58-14 win for Poly. If you speak to the Cal players who played in the AF match mentioned by Big Jim, they will tell you they had a very good side in and played their hearts out. Jack does this to develop his Reserve side and in the case of the Poly 2004 match scout and develop a game plan to be a legitimate challenger. This match was all about Clark getting his Reserves some good experience.
