Confuicius and Desmond 10 – 1/3 of the starting team might be Americans. The majority of the starting XV is foreigners. That’s what one of their coaches said at a coaching clinic. Can’t start a program without foreigners, Life did, even that they do have a few they don’t have 15 on their roster nor in their starting lineup. Davenport has 1 or 2 if I am right and look how good they are doing. You don’t need international players to raise the game here….rather use that scholarship $$$ for American born players and develop them. Yes 1 or 2 foreigners is not bad but 15 on your roster. How is that developing American Rugby players?

@Rugbyfans: Being from the St. Louis area I am quite aware of the stir that Lindenwood Rugby has created. However, to write the program off as solid imports with an american B-side is ignorant. According to the roster, quite a few players come from Colorado Springs which is one of the top high school programs in the country -- and at moments possibly the best. Many of the teams that played Lindenwood last semester wrote the team off as an import team due to the beating. However, chatting with several players has revealed that the team truly does boast a majority of Americans on the starting side, with many of the internationals being walk-ons playing on B-side. Last I heard the starting pack had two internationals and the backline was comprised of three internationals. That means that one-third of the starting varsity team is international. At the level that the school is competing I would consider that extremely impressive for a new program. That is my $0.02

Lions, Rugbyfans - Do you honestly believe that the best American kids are going to be attracted to a program that can't win a game? The international recruits at Lindenwood are approximately 5 kids, with the rest of the internationals being walk-ons from other sports, given that Lindenwood is a sporting school and a VERY international one at that. The emphasis is on raising the bar in the mid-west and this simply cannot be achieved without the experience of a few internationals. FBIC

If you are interested in the amount of American players in the starting 15 for Lindenwood then you should do a little more homework, there were 10 Americans who started the varsity game this weekend against St. Louis Ramblers, 4 of the subs used were also American.

Lions: Think Lindenwood is beating ASU in that, some coaches on the Lindenwood side said in their starting 15xv they only have 3 American kids starting. They had to start the program let's hope they will start to focus on American rugby players in the future. Still good to have a funded program.

Lindenwood is challenging Arkansas St. for number of foreign players on their roster. I count 15 for the Lions. Varsity status is great, and telling kids and parents that playing rugby can get them a college scholarship could help grow the game in America, but not if all those scholarships are given to non-Americans. Hats off to Lindenwood, though, my guess is that they win the D2 title this year even more easily than Davenport won D1-AA last year.
