These elements are as motivational and awe inspiring to you as would the ancient Samoan warrior culture to us here in my country in the South Pacific. Now all that awaits for the American rugby player is astute coaching and well defined game strategy. Wishing the USA 7s team all the best for 2012.

Our players Faosiliva, Mikaele, Treviranus, Mai, Lui, Levasa, Aiono, Otto, Pesamino, etc took anywhere from 5 to 12 years of constant IRB 7s exposure to develop them to high quality players they are now. If you don’t have an IRB rugby High Performance Unit in place utilise your superb Olympic facilities for athlete training. As an overseas student attending US college some years back I recall with admiration playing rugby alongside superbly athletic Americans. Their toughness is ingrained from centuries of pioneering spirit in developing your country, international contribution to the two World wars, and also the American football tradition and psyche. Wasn’t it President Wilson who called it the character building sport for the young American male.

Letting go of coach Caravelli now without an experienced stand out American 7s coach replacing him will mean losing painstaking, hard earned experience carefully built up over some 3 years in the IRB circuit. A foreigner as coach will not fully grasp the uniquely American factors involved in selecting, developing and fielding the very best 7s rugby team the US can offer. Secure now consultancy services of 7s rugby specialists to assist Caravelli.

Like it or not we are still a mostly amateur team playing against pros. Many of our players have to make huge sacrifices to play while the opposition gets to train and play rugby as their job. The best coaches in the world would not do much better than Caraveli even if they were available and willing to work for the pittance we pay him.

Are we still reading articles about if this hten that ... 1 and 9 is 1 and 9. You can try and polish a turd but at the end of the day it's still a turd! I saw two of the Eagle games (Argentina and Australia). Both games were more than winnable. What let the team down was not stepping into touch or having a knee on the ground and harshly penalized; what let the team down was inexcusable mistake after mistake to open each match and gift the other teams tries that simply should not have been. At some point these excuses are really nothing more than that - excuses. And I don't think Carvelli is being paid to provide excuses. The Eagles risk being dropped as a core team as well as qualifying for the Olympics - excuses are not needed - solutions are!!! And fast.

"One tiny change" would be for our flyhalf (or center, I couldn't tell) mark his man in the Australia match. Off a lineout early in the first half, the Aussie simply took a hard 45 degree running angle and scored. Either a total lack of effort or a total lapse in defensive positioning...either one inexcusable.

Decision making should be based on what is instructed by the coach at practice... If there is no game plan, is any decision really a bad one? Look at our penalty set pieces for instance. In wellington they were out only source of continuity, when the Siniula's were able to link up off of the penalty restarts. Yet, in vegas, every-time we had a penalty, we just took a tap and restarted play with no sense of purpose... You either run a set play, or you run a quick-tap and push the action with support... Look at SA, their penalty restarts were clinical... the scored off of, i would say 4 of every 5 penalty restarts the took in the oppositions half.

Maka didn't just "step on the touchline," he was an entire meter, nearly two, outside of it. Thats not bad luck, it is inexcusable! When several poor discussions are made in a game, you cant isolate one as the difference maker. In the first two min of that game, we were pinned inside our five and we kept passing the ball around looking for space until we dropped it and i believe we touched it down, gave up a five meter scrum, and got very lucky that australian made a handling error and we were able to clear. The team doesn't appear to have been drilled on that situation, or many other situations. They should give a clearance kick and trust their ability to defend, or run it up with Test or Hawkins, set a QUICK ruck, and attack the space that should theoretically have opened up by defenders committing to the ruck.

time for new coach .this is a critical time in the development of the program ,that only from the fan base standpoint but from the potential recruitment of athletes . sports is predicated on winning . no 1 wants to be associated with a loser , that's just reality ,in order to reach to next level ,changes must be made a huge opportunity was wasted this weekend where the usa could have been showcased .

"However, the wing just stepped on the touchline." Really? He litterally ran 2 meters out of bounds for a good 20 meters. He had no idea where he was. Not trying to pile on the guy, but I have no idea how you get that far out of bounds and not know it.
