As a player who competed in the game this article is writting for I personally can say it was a good game between two good teams. Me and my team played a full 14 minutes of good rugby and feel short. But this varsity status argument is getting very old. Yes Davenport is a varsity program ,but DU doesn't have a World Cup capped player..I take nothing from Utah because if I had a player in waiting with that skill i'd bring him in too. Utah and Davenport are good teams, and yesterdays game proves how exciting 7s rugby can be but the varsity bashing is sad and doesn't help advance the game of rugby...DU players get scholarships yes thats true ... But complaining won't change anything...Hargraves,Cavan augh, and JP are good players with or without a scholarship...and if i'm not mistaking (and i could be wrong) But Life U get a form of compensation...right

Don't be a dill hole. Davenport has been around for 3 years, and they just made it to the semi-finals in the highest level of play in any collegiate 7's tournament in the country. It has nothing to do with "varsity status" it has to do with the hard work and determination that these boys put in every day at practice. Take your head out of your rear.

Not taking anything away from Davenport, but they are a varsity program, Utah is not. So if anything, we should be commending Utah for being a club team defeating a varsity team. A small school varsity program should be able to compete with even the largest school's club sports rugby team. There's a reason why Davenport and Lindenwood have become dominant so quickly-varsity status and everything that comes with it.
