It's not the age that makes a difference. Fact is I've coache u19 for a lot of years and both united and highland have beaten quite a few college age teams and mens sides despite the big age difference. When any of you guys who are arguing this point. Can you tell me that when you were playing rugby when you were 20. That guys who were 24 or 25 were owning you on the field because of their age? Personally I don't think it makes a difference. The rugby being played I'n Utah is great I'n every division and age never seems to be a problem here. We play up I'n division every year for the experience

Rugby eligibility rules are different than the NCAA. In rugby, you get 5 years from the day you started college. In the NCAA sports, no player redshirts if he is the best at his position. He plays four consecutive years and then is done. The NCAA gives you 5 years of eligibility of which you can only play during four. Thus, if you're not likely to get on the field anyway 'cause other players are better at your position, they redshirt you one year so as to not use up one of your eligibility years. There is absolutely no correlation to missionary service. Incidentally, the NCAA rules are exactly the same as USARugby's for military and missionary service. Incidentally, nobody seems to mind that some of BYU's football, basketball and baseball players are two years older. Why? Because they aren't challenging for the national championship every year. If BYU were lousy at rugby, you'd never ever hear about this issue.

If it were a serious advantage you would see every NCAA team partnering with the Peace Corp. or other volunteer groups to make sure their athletes took time off to age and mature before bringing them back to play.Yeah right!! Trust me, if there were a serious advantage there you would see it being done. In this environment of year-round training and the allure of professional sports or graduating and getting a real job this strategy will never be pursued by any other school.

37 is too old. We're looking at an age range of 26-29. And please don't take away our annual complaining about BYU blatant disregard for fair play by having 25 + men on their team and then brag about how good they are when they play against 19 year olds. Thats just too much fun

I am trying to understand what the motivation is behind this article? Everything in it was just mentioned in the 2012 BYU Rugby Roster article... Is this solely meant to blatantly point out the Mission thing and get the ball rolling on the annual complaining about BYU rugby players being 37 years old?
