Should have just scrapped the whole thing and told everyone to focus on their state competitions. This is being kept alive because a bunch of programs have made nationals their main goal over their existence (through no fault of their own). What would Highland, United, Gonzaga, Xavier, Jesuit, etc do if there was no nationals? So I have no problem with letting those teams go at it in an invitational. I could care less who is crowned "national champion". The fact that this has little to do with deciding who the best team in the country is obvious from the fact that the "the Committee will then consider the applications and send out invitations early in 2012." Most HS seasons wont even be underway then.

There has been an Old Boys mentality in USA Rugby for too many years.. and to go to a SELECTION or INVITATION process, basically just inforces this.. who makes the invitations, or decides who should play in nationals.. and they make this decision in feb? which teams have had time to prove their caliber by that early in the spring??? going away from a true play off, and Earn your spot to be top dog is killing what makes HS and U19 rugby in the USA special.. its been the only US sport with a true national playoff and championship.. and its now gone.. i think that is a shame

I do not agree with the stopping of the play in method. I strongly believe that the tournament will no longer be getting the best of the competition from each area of the country. They will only get teams that can play the political games and have not truly earned the right to contest for a national championship. Sure not all teams that win their region could afford to attend (maybe this is where USA Rugby could have helped) but I believe USA Rugby, as it pertains to High School Rugby, is moving in the wrong direction.
