We're on National Network TV now. Shut up! If you wanna go back to playing games infront of 10 people and someone's dog then keep complaining about how NBC is screwing rugby. They are putting a sport that a very limited percentage of people in this country understand on a national stage. Give it some time. The Super Bowl wasnt exactly a huge hit when it started out and the NCAA tournament was a joke when it first began to get TV coverage. Rugby has come a long way, people that just want to sit back and always complain about what we're not getting are the same people that prevent rugby from making any progress at all. Be thankful, and watch it.

I think what HAHAHA is saying that when a fan stops by the channel on TV and sees SEC, Big 12 and Big 10 schools playing rugby and doesn't see the same caliber of athletes associated with those schools and conferences, there's going to be a lot of disappointment

Simple question, how many people watch the USA rugby 7's chanpionship versus the CRC's??? That should answer your question about "who cares"...

Oh, I couldn't agree more. After all, the NCAA keeping Butler out of the basketball championship the last 2 years was the best thing that ever happened to the sport. I have a good feeling about the growth potential of that little tournament.

If Central Washington or St. Marys were to play, no one would know them. Both schools are not well known by the average sports fan. I think it's a great idea to brand the sport. This works in two fold, it brings in new audience and possibly makes these teams (md, wisconsin, florida) better in the end. It's a win-win for the sport. Let's not forget a few years back when ESPN cut coverage of a USA match to focus on the Steve Mcnair shooting. With ratings, come sponsorship.

@HAHAHA When rugby is in such a developmental stage the best thing for the sport is to bring in fans, and big brand schools always make people flicking through channels stop and have a look at least. And your argument with regards to teams like Florida and Wisconsin lack knowledge. Take Wisconsin, who beat Penn State and Ohio State in the Big Ten 7s tournament. Pretty sure PSU and OSU have been in the CRC before...

I can't wait to see NBC's version of rugby again! 55 minutes of watered down Rugby For Dummies and puff pieces on kids who play other sports with 5 minutes of actual game action wedged in. Lyle and Walsh can keep kidding themselves that they are growing the sport, but everyone can see that they're telling us that playing good rugby isn't enough- you have to whore yourself out. This will never be anything more than a made for television gimmick to help NBC sell advertising for the Olympics- everyone knows the real collegiate champion will be crowned in December.

HAHAHA, the goal is more to inspire competition amongst the BCS set, maybe a booster or two will decide that supporting NBC rugby is a better investment than buying BMWs for back up Tight Ends...Notre Dame has alumni who will support "anything Irish" just for good Craic...this is more about getting the biggest on board than determining the best. Utah/Cal was a great final. Dartmouth is a dream champion (just for the Ivy prestige)...SEC, Big whatever, etc schools have the potential and the boosters capital; NBC brings the publicity/bragging rights. Not hard to see the benefits of all this tacky non-Rugby stuff coming together at sports mad colleges with massive student bodies (population and athletes to choose from)...a nice parallel track to compliment the new "true National Championship" and the "college play in match" which I assume will also be broadcast by NBC.

It is very dissapointing that the criteria for choosing schools solely depended on the $$$$ coming from those schools....and bias from the selection commitee towards the coasts. This reminds me of the early days of certain schools going "varsity" and failing miserably because the people paid to play don't have the same passion and tenacity as teams that work hard to come togetherand prevail on the pitch. I guess its not surprising to hear USA rugby is selling out for the noteriety.

Why doesn't USA 7s LLC and USA Rugby just develop a National College Rugby 7s Series together in June/July around the CRC; rather than have two separate competitions? 16 x 7s tournaments feeding into 4 x regional tournaments and then on to a national championship with 16 teams. Selections could be a combination of qualification through the regional tournaments and LVI and invitation by USA 7s LLC.
