New york rugby is pretty weak outside of NYAC. I'm looking forward to Middlesex joining the NERFU D1 competition next year. I think they'll struggle against the more physical teams but are certainely are better than some of those d1 clubs that have dropped off in recent years such as Amoskeag. I think Josh has done a terrific job and wish them well in the play-offs. Next year I hope they focus on playing the best regional competition availible whether that's requesting a friendly with a superleague club or moving up to d1 next fall.

Josh Smith has put the MSex boys through the proper paces and they will be moving up as he sees fit. They are a powerful and fast, but young club that would have seen a different challenge in D1 this year. The word is that they will be moving up this year and by taking the natural and mature progression of establishing themselves in each division, they will not see a competitive drop off due to the game speed differential from D2 to D1. KUDOS to our Malden brothers!!!

we think we made good choices. Middlesex started in 2001 as a D4 club. We have moved up up 2 divisions in 10 years, and will go to D1 next year if allowed (NERFU made an every 2 year rule). Last year we finished undefeated but 2nd in New England because of a PF/PA situation to a separte division (Hartford moved to D1). We could have moved up in 2009, but we not have the numbers nor athletes we have today to compete in D1... and would have ultimately hurt our team and its growth. Our sevens program is now one of the best in the country and 15s team is on its way.

Middlesex has to be considered one of, if not the, favorite to win nationals, right? They scored 53 pts and shutout a Montauk team who was averaging 40 points a game running through D2 new york competition...
