Wow! for the Pan Am Games an investment in a young team based on youth, speed and overall collective experience to compete and win a medal...and they do. The opportunity is presented to develop their continuity on the first three legs of the IRB circuit but then drop 6 players from the Bronze Medal Team? The USA 7s Team will continue to struggle against the likes of Kenya, Japan, Canada because of the constant change on the roster with no clear objective of how the team will collectively build the teams continuity with the continual changes in the lineup every circuit...its the old premise of 10 steps forward, 20 back. We have to look at developing our younger players on this team for the upcoming IRB if we're to compete on the international stage.

why is he still wasting a spot on Craigwell. that dude continues to be move from club to club every summer and position by position in camp and yet remains number 11 and 12 on the roster. he's a "crossover" project gone wrong and I wish Al would admit as much and let him go already.

@Nigel: you act like Caravelli has control of the situation but in reality the guy is working 2 jobs and making pennies coaching the 7's side. He's not asking his players to make any sacrifices they aren't willing to do and he doesn't make himself. The unfortunate reality is USA Rugby doesn't have much money and they're trying to make the best of a troublesome situation. I'm sure if Caravelli had the budget he wanted he'd have a squad of 20 full-time players but the simple fact is that it's not possible.

How can Mauer be beat out if he was unavailable? Nice job of motivating our guys to want to go to camp by explaining they're beat out when they didn't even attend.

Ngwenya plays for the French side Biarritz, which is currently competing in the Heineken cup. He probably gets payed a fair amount to do so, which could be a good reason, judging by Nigels comments. Plus its probably most players dream to be playing at the level that he is in 15s. He would certainly be an asset though.

And to top all that off.....He still has not payed the 15's guys all the money they are due from the World Cup. 6 weeks later. But in the mean time he as collect more than $30,000 in salary! And paid everyone on his staff there pay checks. People need to the crap that goes on, and the way he treats the players.

These poor guys- and pretty much anyone who plays for the US these days. It is a real shame what Al, and Nigel are doing to these guys lives. Most players would do anything be on the National Team and they are taking advantage of this dream. Nigel and Al are trying to get the players to ruin their life for practically nothing- by cutting travel/free days off per-diems, not paying players for camps, not reimbursing any expenses- and never paying within a reasonable time. While they collect massive paychecks (every two weeks!). Honestly Nigel clears (after taxes) more in a month than 99% of the players make in a YEAR. There is something definitely wrong with that. Now he wants to give them 6 month contracts that are even less than they could make from $100 a day per-diems. Wow. Leaders from the 7's and 15's team should call Bill Hunter! Nigel is worse than Stern!!!
