I am not sure why there are so many people who do not like Salisbury Rugby. They are truly a group of young men who are passionate about the sport. Let's look at facts, they are a much smaller school with fewer athletes to draw from, they have a SIGNIFICANTLY smaller budget then everyone else in the PRU (esp. Towson) and they are physically one of the smallest teams in college rugby. They win because they work extremely hard, are well coached and are they have an intensity that is unmatched. Thank you Mr. Stone for the kind comments. Believe it or not, some of us Shark supporters wish Towson well and love the rivalry that exists because it elevates the interest in college rugby.

To all, lets try a different approach. On behalf of the entire Towson Rugby team,I would like to congratulate Salisbury University on and outstanding season and its win in the PRU tournament finals. Your program has set the standard for winning over the last two decades. This is a result of your commitment to one another, hard work, and great coaching. Our growing rivalry has spurred Towson to work harder than ever to raise our level of play. We have you to thank for this. We will also strive to raise our level of good sportsmanship, comraderie, and friendship so that we can meet the ideals of the game we all love so much. We will work hard to do our part to meet you in the finals of the MARFU and it is our sincere desire that we both advance to the nationals. Again, congratul ations on a great season. Don Stone

....To put it simply we did not have any alumni touch the field. Salisbury and Towson are almost identical academically, in fact Salisbury is acutally slighlty more difficult to get into if you really wanted to split hairs {Check out collegeboard.com}. We win with hard work and grit we do not cheat. If we lose we try to do with as much integrity as we can muster. We know we have the support of our alumni our coaches and our team mates, that is all we need. If youre in you cant explain, if youre not you wouldnt understand TRAIN KEEPS ROLLINGGGGGGGGG GG

Come on Towson, you should have learned years ago that you never throw fuel on Salisbury's fire prior to a big match. When they lose, it's because they get comfortable – when they're out for blood, look out.

as a person who watched the game AND heard what was said to the captain, the ref was making him make the decision to who got the card. The ref should have taken the offense as a yellow card offense (because the player was NOT dumped on his head). All in all the ref was completely unprofessional by letting Hayes make the choice. The captain was confused when he was asked to make the call so he obviously chose the player that was least of an asset on the field. People are saying how dishonest this is when in reality, if the roles were switched you would probably do the same thing. The ref was suspended and is not longer allowed to ref a game with Salisbury Rugby ever again. And by the way, if Zac Hayes was a bad captain, his team would have lost. He may not have made the best decision, but he is one of the best players and captains on a rugby field. Salisbury rugby is undefeated for a reason.

To all, your comments are based upon the article, as written above, which is factually incorrect. The response of the PRU diciplinary board took into account all sides of this situation. Most of your comments are based upon conjecture and not facts. I would agree that the ref changing the call in the first place was a mistake. He should have stood by his convictions. That however is no excuse for all three players involved to be dishonest about who committed the infraction. this is why they were suspended.

How about a public flogging prior to the start of the MARFU championship of all red card holders of the fall season to satisfy the thirst of those longing for greater accountability of player misdeeds. Just curious, but why would PRU officials ask Towson for a video of the game. I guess the ref alerted them to watch the tape so they could see what an outstanding game he called. The #1 post below from NEREF is spot on.

Dstone How was it ever the kids"decision"to be put into that situation? Where was the referee?Did he ask his touch judges?Isn't it his decision who committed the foul? Shouldn't he have known who he was calling such a serious offense on in the first place? I am assuming you are the Don Stone who is the coach of Payton Manning in this article so I imagine if the shoe was on the other foot & your player was called for a red card and the referee who made the call didn't know who actually made the foul and told your captain to pick someone, you would go nuts!!! As a coach you should be incensed with the officiating and or lack of. Especially in such a critical match as a union semifinal. Dishonest or just making the best choice for their team when asked by the official to choose a player which it seems in this case, aside at such a high level game the players should never be put in that situation. It seems like sour grapes to me and it looks like since it didnt work in pru you want more

Towson was asked to supply the video by league officials. Any actions taken against Salisbury were made by the PRU diciplinary committee. Lets be clear about this, it was the decision of the players involved who tried to change the player who was red carded that caused these suspensions. this goes to the very integrity of the game. All three players were dishonest and the penalties should have been much worse.
