There were no red cards. Both cards were yellow and in the 1st half. They were the result of repeated offenses. The penalties were for diving over the ruck. The ref was outstanding, and kept excellent control the game. Often when we hit rucks, the other team is either blown completely off or dropped to the ground. When this happens, it's not uncommon for the other team to get frustrated and resort to dirty play. Since the ref dealt with the issues firmly, the frustrations were not a major factor. (And Portland showed great sportsmanship.) At halftime, the referee and I discussed the penalties, and what she would like players to do to remedy the situation. More than anything, she needed to see that we were not purposely dropping the other team, but simply stronger. She agreed that size mismatch was an issue. She suggested in future if the opposition was overpowered in rucks, simply returning to our feet was evidence that we were not diving down, but they fell away from us.
