To Fkanker 7: $25 plus travel, lodging and meals for the out-of-towners. Much more for college coaches going to multiple sessions. Plus CRCP "subscription fees". For what? A worthwhile project for USA Rugby: compile a directory of collegiate rugby programs that include hard numbers on what scholarships, grants, etc. are available (with specific dollar amounts) and whether the award is a once-off or is renewed yearly. I think you'll find that most collegiate programs can offer such aid to perhaps 1-2 players a year at most in dollar amounts that are a tiny fraction of the total cost to attend those colleges. From the coach's perspective, U.S. high school/U19 rugby is still at a level where if we produce more than a hundred players a year with the physical skills and experience that justify the cost to scout and recruit them, I'd be surprised. By all means, stage those CRCPs- but all sides should go in with eyes open as to what the cost/benefits are.

Tom If people don't want to go they don't have to go. No one is forcing them. The cost is $25. Regardless, if there is a demand for the program it will gain traction, if not it will cease to exist. The more rugby becomes organized outside of college the more of a chance it will be come "recognized" by universities.

How about a NJ/NY/PA venue? Just on sheer population alone, the amount of rugby teams in these colleges that could use help out of high school outnumbers those of say, Charlotte NC??!!

To Flanker 7: I hear you, but the danger is that kids and their parents will spend time and money attending these combines thinking there are sizeable scholarships or grants to be had. When they discover that this is just not the case, they will not be happy. Both my sons played rugby at Xavier HS in NYC. When it came time for college, I told them to consider all other factors first: quality of education, the school's strengths relevant to their career goals, cost, distance, financial aid, etc. The school's rugby program was to be consdered once they've narrowed their choices. The desire to receive a good education without incurring the burden of student loans narrowed their choices to the SUNY system. Their desire to play rugby in a good, solid, competitive Division I program led them to Binghamton University and the University at Albany. They both got a great education, left school with $0 loans to pay. And they played for good rugby teams. No combines needed.

I am a college rugby coach. And we dont have any incentive as far as sholarships, or even tuition waivers for kids to come to our program. how would this combine help us? I am in Utah so we are blessed with a Huge ammount of good ruggers coming out of our youth programs thank goodness, but unless Universities make RUGBY a school sponsered sport with Scholarships and incentives to play at that school, i dont see what the end goal is here.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the overwhelming majority of college rugby programs don't have budgets that would allow them to (a) pay CRCP subscription fees, (b) send their coaches gallivanting around the country to these combines or (c) offer scholarships or financial aid in anywhere near the number or amounts that would motivate kids or their parents to spend the money to attend these combines. The number of talented high school rugby players coming out of solid high school and U19 programs in this country each year probably numbers in the scores at best. The number of solid college rugby programs, meanwhile, numbers a few dozen at best. I doubt these colleges and players need a third party to find each other. This CRCP program is premature by a decade at least. I suggest everyone calm down and concentrate on laying a solid foundation for youth, high school and college rugby. The rest will take care of itself. Build it and they will come.
