I completely agree with Joe Greco that Tim Lewis should be the next Eagles head coach. He has more International coaching experience than the entire current coaching staff combined and he knows how to win!

USA is domintaed by pro sports and american sports hype and values - in order for rugby to proper via the eagles you have to get the grass roots right - high profile, highly paid coaching anybodies won't get you the international success that people crave - schools, college, then clubs are the only way. Also divide the USA into conferences for once a year provincial knockout comp. Then the coaches can see all the talent on show at once. The only way to competye internationally is by internal development not external recruitment - it will take two generations - is this too long? No as it is the only way to ensure sustained development and success.

Tim Lewis is a former teammate on the collegiate, club, and super league level. He has a huge heart, he is a stand up guy - both ethical and loyal, and one of the hardest working people in US Rugby today. He has devoted his entire adult life traveling around the world playing and coaching along side the very best in the world. He knows what it takes to play Rugby on an International Level because he has surrounded himself with those players learning how to coach from the best. Look at his resume, call the references... no other American even comes close. Winning a US Super League championship does not make you qualified to coach at the international level. Coaching along side coaches of International players and teams is a great start. He understands American athletes, he knows the strengths and shortfalls of US Rugby and how to improve it, and he knows how to coach Rugby.

The primordial “American” sporting adage:Offense wins games, defense wins championships If we’re going to win the RWC then let’s play 10 man rugby and keep it close Until that time … we could play like the super 15 , the Kiwis, the Aussies, the French have some fun Ask yourself – what’s more fun? Pounding your head into some hulking frontrower for no gain? or a dummy, three passes, a loop, and a sprint to the try line? And yes, yes, yes- admittedly, ya gotta have the big bodies, the hard bodies - to get ball – possession is everything So to choose a coach: American - or raising kids here graduate of the USA system – such as it is Back – you can lookup John Kirwan’s comments about Japan’s style of play/ players/ system A player who runs into space, not into contact And recall another old American sporting adage: just win baby, just win lets play ball

The next coach should only care about 15s. 7s is a softy game that is more for fun than competitive. 15s is the REAL sport.

The next head coach of the United States Eagles should be Tim Lewis. I have known Tim for over twenty years dating back to our days as grunts in the Marines during Desert Storm. During those days, we used a canteen for a ball and made due with what we had which was a passion for the game of rugby. From the moment we made it home, Tim Lewis has dedicated his life to learning the game of rugby. I remember going up against the Missouri teams he coached back then: Outlaws and Uof Missouri and they were always well coached and disciplined teams. Lewis is tough, honest and willing to do whatever it takes to bring success to the United States rugby community. Like me, Tim can remember when tries were worth four points and no lifting was allowed in the lineouts. 20 years of experience in both the states and outside should qualify the man as capable of taking the team to new heights. Give Lewis the job and watch the success that will follow.

instead of focusing on coaches, fix the broken competition system in the US 1st so there is a clear path from youth, thru college, to club (whether amateur, semi or full pro, rep sides, etc) to the national team... there's been a good start at realigning college play but the club system is broke

Tim Lewis is my pick. He spent 10+ years in New Zealand playing, coaching, and learning the the international way to play. An American that has experience overseas...? EASY hire. Dumb not to.

Tim Lewis is a stellar rugby coach and leader with the coaching experience and knowledge at both the international and domestic level. He has all the skills necessary to be the best at this position- if I was in the position to make this decision, I would choose him. Hopefully Team USA makes the same!
