East Carolina has made no official application for membership in the ACRL, so it is pointless for me to speculate on what the vote would be (and inappropriate to do so on a message board). It would obviously depend highly on what East Carolina presented to the Conference, and as stated below, the Conference would take a number of factors into consideration.
I understand that East Carolina 'asked' to be in the ACRL a few months ago via a facebook message to the commissioner from a player's dad. They have no coach and a history of lack of organizational structure. They almost didn't go to the USA Rugby playoffs last spring because they couldn't get their paperwork in. They were on numerous occasions informed that they could submit an appropriate non-facebook application for membership. They never did. I think we can all figure out how that vote would go.

"The ACRL does not limit its membership to teams from schools that are currently in the ACC (although it does limit participation in the ACI to those schools)." Thank you Mr. Kane for your response. So you're saying that if, say, East Carolina University to pick a school, applied for membership to the Atlantic Coast Rugby League considering that under the college rugby reformation they're supposed to make the move up to Division I soon because they are an NCAA Division I-A university, and with the formation of SEC Rugby and ACRL, there are few non-SEC, non-ACRL teams near Greenville, North Carolina, for them to form a league with that wouldn't kill them on their travel budget. I'm talking XVs, not 7s. And what in your opinion would be the result of said vote? I know you probably can't say which schools would vote which way but you can take the whole of the conference membership and make a guess.

The ACRL does not limit its membership to teams from schools that are currently in the ACC (although it does limit participation in the ACI to those schools). If VT were to leave the ACC, the ACRL membership would vote on whether to keep them in the ACRL and a number of factors (program infrastructure, history, academic reputation, traditional rivalries, brand recognition, etc.) would be considered. They would no longer be allowed to participate in the ACI, however. That said, I would be somewhat surprised to see Virginia Tech as an institution leave the ACC for the SEC given the pressure the government of the Commonwealth of Virginia put on UVA to get VT into the ACC in the first place. But money trumps everything, so if the deal is sweet enough, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Hokies bolt for much greener football pastures.
"Why? It is an obvious necessity so the ACC doesn't sue the ACI, and end all progression the ACRL has made." The Atlantic Coast Rugby League limits their membership to colleges that are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, a group they receive no money from and have no input in on decision making. The college conference system is based currently on football and non-revenue sports as rugby is are completely unsustainable within the football conference system. Look at the news that came out yesterday: Texas A&M is going to leave the Big 12 and is likely going to the SEC. They need a dance partner. That dance partner is likely going to be an ACC school. The most logical pick to me is Virginia Tech as Florida, Georgia, and USC have said they won't allow in their intrastate rivals. Virginia Tech leaving ACC football to playing SEC football is logical. Virginia Tech leaving the ACRL to play SEC rugby is completely insane, so would VT be kicked out by the ACRL.

The best part of that ACC disclaimer is that it points out to anyone who might not have been aware that this is essentially the ACC tournament. By requiring the disclaimer to 'protect their mark' the ACC essentially allows the ACI and ACRL to get the benefits of the mark/brand.
