davehalo... the argument that our best athletes aren't playing rugby is fairly legitimate. if you were to take a select team of our top-level nfl players and give them a year or so of coaching to learn the nuances of the game, you can't possibly convince me that that squad wouldn't do some serious damage internationally . as good as some of our guys like zee and clever are, for the most part, this side simply does not have that elite level of athleticism up and down the roster. i mean, how much scarier would our pack be if it were manned by some of the guys on this year's nfl all-pro defensive front? is there a prop duo in the world that'd match haloti ngata and ndamukong suh for sheer physicality? i'm not so sure there is. and don't even get me started on the backline...

re: try rugby...7's over 15's? therein lies one of USA's biggest problems...oh oh oh...rugby is in the olympics now so the sponsors, tv time and fans will pour into the sport and the athletes will come!!! gimme a break. take 15's, 1st it's that our best athletes aren't playing (this has never stopped being an argument), then it's that "we" are amateurs with not enuf pros, then it's that our pros are playing lower level pro...the excuses are endless. i want to snd out congrats to those coaches starting with U8's thru U19's and bldg us from there.

The problem is that he never could create anything as they were slowly passing the ball up to him without fixing the defense at all, so he had defense on his back at the same time as he got the ball. I agree, they should switch centers and the wingers should ask for more work between the centers instead of staying on the outside the whole time...

A decent showing on the whole. The backline for the US proved when given the ball and some space they can make plays. You could tell the lack of continuity by the way the runners struggled to hit the angles correctly and create space. Nesse played a dreadful game, there's no other way to put it. He's a better player than that, and will bounce back, he has to, or else he will find his time as an international rugby player very short. The US scrum was horrible. Free Mike McDonnell. The US has to have at least 1 prop who can control a scrum and not get wheeled or pushed at will. Chris W. will be a welcome addition at FB as well. Blaine seemed a bit struck by the moment of test rugby and some veteran leadership in the back would have help to prevent 2 of the Ca tries.

Is it me or Emerick does not know how to create, every time he touches the ball he goes into contact, he needs to switch positions or something. Suniula needs to harden up, lost the ball way too many times. They just need to get the ball to Zee cause every time he touches the ball he makes something happen.

Not really. Watch the tape...it's all on Fry's side. He may be a good player around the pitch but he's not an international level prop. He's been exposed each game...god forbid he plays against a team in the WC that knows how to scrummage like Ireland or Austraila

It's a tough choice. When you look at Argentina over the last decade, sending their players in Europe to play pro definitely paid off. But again, it took a while... One solution would be - just like in Japan - to keep players here and to recruit end-of-career international players from overseas. But got to find the money for it. Lastly, there is a tough call between Sevens and XV Rugby. If Sevens gets more momentum, XV could be in big trouble...

re WOW - malifa playing 6 RSL games vs 8 regular season D1 & 4 playoff games? u think RSL would prepare him better? that is a WOW. re try rugby - i asked a different ?? than ur statement but they are similar. US had 6 starters playing pro & 3 more on the bench. 4 of the starters r unattached but i think 3 of 4 have played pro as well. so CAN takes a different line of attack over the past few years. they bring their players home 2 play in domestic competition while there is still a push 2 send americans overseas...& lets not 4get that many americans consider our Eagle athletes 2b 2nd tier athletes compared 2 our "pro" sports; thus u have Al recruiting "crossover" players. when will "we" wake up an fix our domestic competition single season 4 clubs with top players feeding a higher level competition once the regular season wraps up. i'm pretty confident the eagles will fix their mistakes and take it 2 CAN in the next game. here's 2 USArugby fixing the bigger probs

As I was kind of mentioning before, knowing each other, especially at scrum time for the tight 5, is critical. The Eagles only play together when national camp comes around. The Canadians have 3 out of 5 playing together all the time in club and another who's playing pro for one of the best teams in Europe... This is significant.
