It's sad how many people target CPD teams when they have no clue how hard it is for those clubs to run internally on such a strenuous schedule both financially and geographically due to travel.. Please consider what you say before you assume you know how it is. Absolutely no offense intended, but until some of the DI clubs stop settling and step up to higher level competition they will truly never have a chance to compete with the next level. TCU never reached the next level in NCAA football (nor did Boise State) until they toppled a powerhouse.

College #7 You should read before you write. We're talking about developmental teams playing at a lower level. In particular, CPD teams with developmental teams playing in the South Independent conference.

DMac77 You are obviously not from these parts? No where in American collegiate sport does this happen. How great would it be for Cal to play Cal for a national title. Pure bush league - I hope they never allow it to happen.

I hope that USA Rugby reconsiders that. As more youth are introduced to rugby more universities and colleges will add developmental teams. They should be allowed to compete for a championship. Tracking the rosters is not a problem with the USA Rugby membership system. There must be some way to give those develpmental players a chance to reach the pinicle. How about a championship amoung the developmental sides?

DMac77 No school is allowed to be represented at two different levels in USAR nationals. Davenport applied last year and it was (correctly IMO) rejected.

I just confirmed with USA Rugby that Arkansas State and Life's developmental teams will not be playoff eligible. I think that's a mistake. Using the USA Rugby Membership team roster function it would be easy to set up rosters for the CPD and D1 teams. Then everyone could see if a player is eligible to play D1. Game day rosters are still being tracked aren't they? It really shouldn't be a problem. Club teams compete in multiple divisions and college teams should be able to as well. Some developmental players may never make the CPD team. They deserve a chance to play post season rugby too.

@Craig- Nobody was asking for or misrepresenting the facts surrounding the SWRC and Texas A&M. As far as I could tell they were just commenting on the seemingly ill-advised press release that A&M issued afterwards.

Where did you get that? I haven't seen any reports that Life or ASU's developmental sides won't be eligible for playoff spots. It kind of defeats the purpose of the conference to compete but not play for the championship. I know there are men's clubs with teams competing in different divisions and there is no limit on how far the lower division team can go.

I can understand ASU wanted a foot in a D1 conference but I do not blame the SEC saying no to them because of the collegiate brand that USA rugby wants us to have. Their independent conference looks ok particularly if the CPD goes "south" -Life and ASU would wipe the floor with the rest. Fla State is decent but they lost twice to Florida and once to South Carolina just this spring in their South matrix. Across the board, SEC is a pretty reasonable conference with TN, Fla, and LSU and SC and Georgia are not too far behind
