why is everyone complaining, Nigel is trying..it is not his fualt that he cannot find any big time corporations that wants to invest in the USA rugby 15s and 7s teams. I am a 17 year old player and i understand that america is not interested in any sports unless they are number one at it. and the extra 10 required for getting cipp is not a big deal its ten dollars and if it is going to help professionalize the USA teams let it happen. that is a sacrifice everyone in the usa rugby program has to pay to pave the way for USA, cuz as i see it where else will the money come from, if the USOC wont give us much and 2016 come we wont be ready. Nigel was right about his last statement "effective training environment, where they don’t have to worry about feeding their family or paying their mortgage." this is a short term thing that we is the USA rugby community have to do to help

Benito1 makes a great point. The USOC won't fund an Americas circuit. That needs to come from PASO, USA Rugby, Argentina, Canada, etc. The Euro Sevens circuit was created originally by Russia, Portugal and Spain. I agree with the comments about expanding our youth and college. They are not exclusive to making the 7s team fulltime. We need to do all three. If you don't make the 7s team fulltime now we won't be ready for the Olympic qualifiers in 2014. We need all of it. It's a major step in the right direction. The big question is how many players are ready for fulltime?

really Nigel ? first you and eddie should be on a pay by performance, which should bring your salary down to zip nice diverting money for the High performance program , good one , great way to develop the sport. by the way , cipp dues are not sponsorship dollars nigel, get sponsors first and then maybe help out the clubs you P*&^k

I think that usa rugby should concentrate more on upgrading rugby to a varsity sport in college which will gain popularity and maybe even attract some sponsors. The crc is a great step forward for 7s in the US and success will come through college and youth rugby and we should build there first.

how is 2 million 40% of the budget when their financials show them receiving over 2 million in sponsorship in 2009 and over 2 million from dues. and if the game has continually grown as they said it should be more. I think USA rugby has over spent on to many programs that haven't yielded enough progress in professionalizi ng the sport in this country. Its time for change in the administration.

Oh the mysterious, ongoing sponsorship talks. How long has nigel been on the job? How many meaningful sponsors? Zero? National Guard wasnt his scalp so it doesnt count. Will believe this when I see it.

A professional 7s squad is great news if they can make it happen. However it shouldn't be done at the expense of youth, high school and college rugby, but only if USA Rugby can grow it's own budget to accomodate a pro 7s team. I agree with Benito1 we need our own 7s circuit. First contract 12 to 22 players based at Chula Vista, then start a Pan American 7s series with 4 stops in August. Vancouver, San Francisco, New York City and Buenos Aires. Last fund the USA Cougars (developmental squad)to play 7s tournaments between the IRB 7s World Series stops. If we can do all that we will be a top 6 team by 2016.

Yes, sounds awesome. It sounded even more awesome a few years ago when they promised the same thing. As much as I'd like to see it happen, do we seriously want almost 40% of USA Rugby's budget spent on a national team? Throw in the Eagles and that could be well over 60% of their budget. What about actually growing the game here at home? Youth, HS, and College? National teams should be self sufficient. If their income is enough to professionalize , then more power to them. But it shouldn't come at the expense of the taxpayers.
