there is no "american standard" of rugby except panic and lack of fluid play and lack of creativity. too much pressure to perform and break the mold, every player forcing the issue. this stems a horrible standard of club play. even all the playoffs that just happened were sloppy and full of knock-ons, with a few glimmers of light. teams should be city based. and each city have an infrastructure of div 3-SL teams that feed into each other based on talent. the best players need to be on the best teams working together and then playing against each other. and often. there is no USA rugby style. we need to CREATE OUR STYLE, which should stem from the fact that we all come from different sports. that is actually our advantage, not our crutch.

I would even put number 12 on his back, to suck the defense in center field with his physicality and open up spaces for a #13 "lighter"...

Come on, let's be more positive! :-) In any case, if American Rugby wants to grow and join the big rugby nations, big bucks will have to be put on the table, one way or the other... Nobody I think mentioned it but the best player for me on the pitch - besides Emerick and Lavalla - was Swiryn. Always gaining meters, offloading, making the tackles, getting into spaces... A pity he didn't get more involved and didn't try more to mix up in center field. It could even be interesting to put him fullback...

Now I know why Scott LaValla doesn't have any hair....he has pulled it all out in frustration. It is obvious that the "pro" players, LaValla and Clever, are streets ahead of the amateur ones. Rugby is a professional game. Until such time as the USA (and Canadian) poobahs wake up and set-up a professional domestic league both countries are pre-disposed to failure at the RWC level. The bookies are offering evens that the Aussies score 100 on the Eagles in the RWC....

Yea and that is how it should be. we need the pro guys to step up.Show why they are playing in the premiership and top 14. I don't care so much about the churchill cup,but the RWC is a different story. it's not gonna be A teams or 2nd sides . It's the real deal . some how some way the boys need to find it within themselves to get it done and become a "TEAM". There needs to be more time for them to train together as well. if you can't commit yourself to a certain amount of time then give the spot up. can't form team chemestry in just two weeks of training together. look at Samoa and Fiji , same problem. Not much time together. Sorry for the rambling rant boys ....

Maybe the rugby is lackluster, but these boys can jump a motorcycle over the Grand Canyon! Who the heck comes up with these designs?! I hope my dues/taxes ain't paying for this. I understand the more products/more demand/more $ thing but don't put a turd on a stick and call it a corndog and expect me to get hungry. Oh and "...often because the USA’s arm tackling was weak..." Really?! Seriously?!

An American coach won't be any more effective. But he might be a lot less expensive. If you've got to lose (and clearly, we do) you might as well not pay top dollar for the privilege. I think we can win the RWC. The 2051 RWC. And there is a hell of a lot of work needed to be done by then.

I'm ok with that, it's just that I don't exactly see the kind of style that would be unique to the USA and get the team to the top... Looking at the shape of the players, I would say that mobility would be a key element, but they need to clean their passing skills... If they can fix the "unprovoked" forward passes and balls dropped, it would be a great step. Anyway, next game, no excuses!
