Why are people arguing about the 7s results based on the results of the 15s seasons? It's not 15s, it's 7s. They are two entirely different games requiring entirely different styles of play. Sorry but Dartmouth played the most technically sound 7s of the tournament and it showed all weekend long. Cal may be a 15s force but they simply just WEREN'T THAT GOOD in the 7s tournament. Get over it.

As "Really" points out, Dartmouth BEAT Utah, who BEAT Cal. Sorry, west coast Koolaid drinkers, Army and Dartmouth were the best teams of the Tourney, head to head. The west just trailed. BYU might have done ok, but who knows, as 7s rewards some different strengths and tactics than 15s.

The pools WERE set up for a Cal-Utah final (as they should be for 1-2 finishers from last year). Dartmouth threw a wrench in that plan when they WON pool B - so Utah faced Cal in the opening round of the Cup, instead of in the final.

3. "Warm weather teams"??? The afore-mentioned BYU/PSU match-ups were played in St. George, Utah, a warm location compared to BOTH teams' locales early in the season! This year's season was especially crazy for BYU, since traces of snow lingered not just into March but all the way into May! Try that on for size in Pennsylvania!! (Don't know about you, but I'm melting right now in NYC) If that's 'warm weather' to you, then Jack Clark's my uncle!!! Bottom line, the only disrespect here is for your feeble comments. Dartmouth definitely benefited from not having to play Cal. Cal and BYU, both western teams, are the standard for the rest of college rugby. And the 'warm weather' bit really is a joke for most teams in the west and pacific coast, with the exception of the southwest. BYU did not enjoy good weather this season yet still matched Cal in the Final.

2. The "Pacific Coast koolaid" has been distributed for consumption by the results. Who else is getting better with relation to the heavyweights in the West? Life, Ark. State, and Army. Okay, who else? Delaware, maybe??? I can't even think of any more off-hand. Here's a hint: It's definitely not Penn State! I even did a blog post in '09 detailing how the margin of victory of BYU over PSU has increased in recent years. Dare I even mention the result from this past season? (I'll give you a sec to cover your kids' eyes) BYU 64, PSU 0. So is that better or worse than the previous match-up in '09 (BYU 86, PSU 14)? You're right; that's just an abrasive question. And I shouldn't continue to use Penn State as my punching bag, since BYU will continue to do that for me! :P

I don't usually get too too serious on here as I am an avid fan of rugby in general when all is said and done ... However, PSU Steve ... your comments just need to be squashed into the ground, buddy! 1. The two most legit Pac Coast teams at the tournament basically eliminated each other. If the pools had been set up for a potential Cal-Utah rematch in the final, then we very likely would not be talking about Dartmouth. Utah played outside themselves in a miraculously dominant win over Cal (know who they are, bro?), actually much more shocking than last year. In the process, however, their players were obviously gassed and not all there when it came time to face Army. Tired out by Cal, beat by a hair by Army and the ref.

If you want to include those teams in a TRUE "Collegiate" National Championship then they better meet the same academic standards as the rest of the teams competing. I dont care if I see rugby factories compete in this. It was a great event without them. BYU is the only team with any beef on this issue.

@USARugby4: Its not a national championship, its the USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC). Benito: NBC will do what they want, its their event. Its BYU's loss, but according to their mission statement, its pretty low on their list of issues to concentrate on. Dartmouth played a great game. They looked fit and played the best brand of sevens. Sorry to see Army on their heels, they looked gassed from the weekend. Definitely impressed with Temple, UNC and Texas. They took the opprotunity seriously and it showed. Oklahoma gets my vote for the 'All Hair Team." Wow, find a barber. They looked like a bunch of Okies.

There is so much young talent with a lot of rugby experience coming up. I'm struggling to know why the selectors are obsessed with turning washed out NFL rejects into international rugby players? Every time some Football players decides to play rugby the selectors go crazy over them, and they drop a RUGBY player with experience that could be physically developed into a super star! Rugby skills are developed over a long time. You can't just teach skills in two weeks. The timing of a pass, the timing of running a line, they all require experience, specially at International level. However the selectors seem to think they can. It clearly doesn't work!! Ridiculous...
